Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

No idea about the resort and agree it definitely depends on having a certain depth of fresh snow. Hardpack or ice is horrible.
I failed badly at
snowboarding
for a day with no instructor, as did my friends, during a ski week. Later met some British boarders in a chalet and asked them how they were getting on. The answer was “don’t try for a day, try for a whole week”. Next year I went out with the intention “this is the week I try boarding”. It was and I happily boarded for several weeks/years after that. Like bikes v cars, you realize the rivalry is bollox.
I think I had lessons morning and afternoon, and was going down the mountain at the end of day 3. Five full days will be fine for them to decide if they like it or not. Three half days would be a disaster; and yes, they can learn some resilience and not instant gratification or quitting! But do tell them the first 2-3 days will be learning basics, they won’t be blasting down on Day 2. Manage expectations.
My 13 yo tried it for a week, she was quite enjoying it but had a nasty backfall on the last day, slamming coccyx and back of head. Since then she goes with school trips and they didn’t have enough applicants for boarding so she’s back to skiing again.
