Note the other topic re tall people. My impression is there is plenty for the tall, long legged and very thin people
My 2 sets of salopettes have all but had it. Rips and holes everywhere.
So a day spent on line looking for a good quality pair of trousers has been pretty fruitless.
I am 5ft 7in on my tippy toes or with my skiboots on. Inside leg 30in or a tad less. Waist 33in. 58yo. So basically not too different from your average chap just slightly vertically challenged. Not too fat and not too slim.
Every time I pick a trouser I seem to find that to accommodate my waist etc I need legs that are anything up to several inches too long.
So it seems braces may be a necessity.
Any brands recommended or advice would be helpful

That would be the impression of a short dumpy bloke. There isn't plenty or indeed many at all! Read the thread.

So yes, a couple of inches too long. You'll just have to live with scrunched look. Which is cooler than the half mast look.

@Mark1863, pixie female here. Schoffel do ladies ski pants in short leg length, I think they may do them for men too.

I'm a similar size to you (an inch shorter, you lanky so-and-so) and my old salopettes are Rossignol and picked up a pair of cheap (I think) Protest Denysy snowpants from Cotswold last year. Both seems to fit me OK so might be brands worth looking at.
Decathlon might be worth a look too as they do some with a sort of draw string length adjustment. Not perfect but mean you don't have loads of trouser flapping around your ankles and they are cheap enough to be a filler till you find something better fitting.

Arc'teryx were another brand to offer different leg length shell pants last time I looked.

I'm a 30" leg and struggled to find anything suitable so bought a pair of Salomon Brilliant with a 32" leg and had them professionally altered. Cost me £7.50.

But... I found a great pair today in Go Outdoors,

I also have a north face pair in 30 leg but can't find a replacement online as they are a few years old.

@Corky, professional for £7.50? Professional at what? I’ll get my regular strides altered at Mrs Miggins Alteration Boutique, but never my ski pants. Bang goes your waterproofing for the sake of a little bit of gathering.

tbf if he just had a couple of inches taken off the end of the legs there wouldn't be much waterproofing to worry about, ofc wouldn't want to mess with any of the taped seams much higher than the ankle on ski gear.

@Dr John, Took them to a seamstress at a local indoor market. Yes just a couple of inches taken off. She sewed the protective strip back on and they're fine. If you look them up on the Ellis Brigham website it states, word for word:
"The clean lower leg means your local tailor can easily shorten these pants by up to 4”

Worse for me, fat, 38 inch waste. Manufacturers seem to think you grow taller as your waste expands. I previously used a specialist brand "White Rock", they were expensive and ordinary. I am now on my second pair of Decathlon ones with draw strings. They are smart enough and cheap enough to chuck after a couple of seasons.

I have that impression too! I wear a 30in inside leg so short-legged but not abnormally so. They are all too long but I tried on some lovely Norrona pants once that were 6 inches too long! Have you ever tried on a pair that are 6 inches too short?

Keela offer a short/reg/long leg option. Very good bit of kit, wish I'd kept mine. Only minor point is as they're mountaineering kit the hems are a neat fit over a ski boot - but they do go over.

Yup, I'm sure they do a good job but are a little on the pricey side! They quote £89.50 to replace the zip in my Mountain Equipment down jacket, the local seamstress did a perfectly good job of it for £19.50

I am almost exactly the same size/age as you and have always had this problem. The legs of my ski pants always became frayed from dragging along the ground.
I currently have very expensive Norrona shell ski pants with braces and I still have this issue.
I know this is neither ideal nor revolutionary but I don't find the length an issue when skiing as they can hang longer without being visually or practically problematical.
When I take my ski boot off I simply turn the bottoms up an inch which really doesn't look too bad and solves the problem.
Sorry if I am stating the bleeding obvious but it took me many years to realize this .....

Arc Teryx used to do a 32/30 size. Soft shell or Goretex. I have both from about 16 years ago. There are not cheap at first but I think they have cost me less than 10p a go each. I have no plans or need to change. You could do worse than ring the people at Facewest for some advice. Excellent people, no connection.

I have this problem as well. There is something weird about ski trousers. It's taken ages to find ones properly proportioned, and where the nominal waist size takes account of wearing more layers than for everyday clothing. Judging by what other guys are wearing - especially middle-aged, like me - then it seems to be a common problem. My current pair are quite cheap lightweight types: I just wear good thermals underneath. So for the OP, it may be worth taking a look at similar lightweight offerings. These are the first pair where I don't need braces and don't look like a fireman with 15cm turn-ups. My real whinge is about these stupid 'L', 'XL' etc categories which don't mean anything as they vary with each manufacturer - FFS why not just quote waist and leg sizes?

Sadly using sizes won't work because they even lie about the measurements.
Personally I've migrated over the years from Medium through Small, and now
I'm eXtra-Small, despite being precisely the same size and mass.
I can only conclude that sizes are "adjusted" so fat people don't have to face reality. That's also
true even of companies like M&S, whose stuff I can no longer use as it's all huge.
I'm not sure what will happen when I become less than SX; kids' stuff won't work
as they're not shaped like adults.

I'm 5'10" with a 36ins waist and 30ins inseam. I also can't find ski trousers that fit.
Some time ago someone on this site gave a heads up that Cotswold camping were selling Rab Exodus shoftshell trousers for I think it was £40. I got a pair they fitted great in the waist and around the bum but were miles too long, they only came in one leg size. Because of the ski guard thingy on the inside leg they couldn't be altered by just shorting them. In the end I got a local tailor to cut the legs off mid-calf, take six inches out and sew the bottoms back on. She did a fantastic job the seam doesn't even look out of place and they now fit great.
I also have a pair of Gore-tex trousers for when the weather is more Scottish, their "Moonstone" never heard of them before or since. They're just mesh lined so I wear them over thermals. Unfortunately their getting on for twenty years old and have past their best. I looked at Rab's website they have a really fancy pair that cost £550 would you believe. I asked what sizes they did and was told again just one leg size 34ins. Just how do they expect to sell them? If I were to spend that much on a pair of trousers (which I'm definitely not about to) I'd expect them to fit perfectly.

I ripped my salopettes a couple of weeks ago in Obergurgl. Being short legged, I wasn't hopeful of being able to buy a suitable pair in the resort but the Scheiber shop had exactly what I needed - Schoffel salopettes with a variety of leg lengths including the desired "short" - and at slightly better than UK prices.

I have similar dimensions to you , maybe a little shorter .
I bought a pair of CMP black pants in a short - the fit is brilliant . highly recommend , in fact I am looking to see if I can get in any other colours
2 years ago I ordered a pair of Mammut ski pants in a short ( from Europe ) . They were also good but longer than the CMP.

My wife has new Roxy ski pants, which had there first week on the snow in Obergurgl last week. We spotted a loop on the outside of the back of her lower calf and couldn't figure out what it was for. On the last day the lifts were mainly shut so we went for walk into town and as she was getting ready to leave in her walking boots, we discovered that there was a tab with a press stud inside the lower leg. This meant that she could have a proper turn-up in them when not wearing her ski boots. Very impressed with this, maybe a seamstress could add that option to other trousers?

Update to this I took a pair of regular length ski trousers to a professional seamstress/outfitting shop recently, they shortened them perfectly 2" for about £22. Had to remove and restitch the short zips etc but did a great job. As long as they use synthetic thread, not cotton. Skilled people can still be found.
