Hi, what's the best way to get from Geneva to Chatel in the summer? Magic Transfers are not operating this summer.

Going out for 2 weeks mid August. Been plenty of times before but this will be the first time taking my kids in summer (3 & 4yrs old). Looking for recommendations on what to do/where to go i.e. water parks, beaches, play parks etc.
Thanks in advance.

See attached link. It shows two car parks (cannot remember the numbers). The car park shown in the North West is free (I Think). Has no security though so not sure how safe it is. The one below has reasonable rates.
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?t=h&ie=UTF8&ll=46.241579,6.120147&spn=0.004986,0.009602&z=17
I always leave my car in 51 but costs can add up.

We have a 4x4 which we'll be basing at the chalet this season. I'll be driving it down over Christmas and need advise on the following;
(1) Swiss Vignette, Where do I get one from?
(2) Snow Chains, do we need these and if so where’s the best place to buy them?
(3) What do we need to drive on French and Swiss roads? High vis jackets etc.
(4) Diesel, do we need any particular winter fuel?
(5) Winterising the van, what do we need to do?
Any other advice?
Also, which route would you suggest to get to Chatel?
Thanks

How much do you expect to pay?
Last year we regularly left ours for a couple of weeks in one of the multi story car parks - car park 51. 85 f for the first week and 10f a day after that. Much cheaper than Gatwick!!
That looks like the best idea. How busy is the car park? Can you normally park no problems. Paying £60 a week would be o.k. Can you get to it from the French side?
|
|
Need a place to park a car at or around Geneva airport in between holidays. Thinking about leaving it in the multi story but this could be costly! Max it will be left is 13 days. Normally it will be left for 5-6 days.
Any ideas.
Thanks

The Booze cruise is a very good point. Bet you could off set quite a bit of the cost.
|

Thanks for the info. I'm planning about 9 trips next year and was thinking about the cost of it all. I was working on a door to door flying time of about 8 hours (1.5 hours to and from airport, 4 hours checking in/waiting (total both ways), 4 hours flight time return allowing for slight delays (total both ways), 2 hours collecting/returning cars and collecting luggage (total both ways), 4.5 hours driving to and from resort) with the cost equating to about £600 for 2 people inc car hire. (£50 taxi to and from airport, £200 flights, £320 car hire and £30 fuel).

Looking for some advise on driving to Chatel from Birmingham (Never done it before). How long will it take? Is it better to take the Ferry or Chunnell? Is it a lot cheaper than flying to Geneva and hiring a car (for 2 people)?

Took out a waiver to reduce the excess in the event of an accident. I'll re-check the paperwork to see what the new excess level is.

Hire a car from Europecar early Jan 08. Left it parked overnight in Chamonix and it got keyed across two doors (scum!). Went to police trying to report but didn’t have a translator so got turned away. Had to get back to Geneva for flight so returned car and filled out an incident report. Yesterday a letter turned up saying they had charged my credit card 1,100CHF!!. At the time I took out the additional cover so any thoughts on were I stand with this? Haven’t called them yet so any advice appreciated.

Got back yesterday. Lots of new snow but unfortunately raining lower down Monday. When we left am Tuesday AM the resort had blue sky and the freezing levels had lowered. Should be plenty of good skiing as long as it stays cold.

East Midlands, Geneva & Birmingham are the airports I’ll be going through.

MorganW, Fairly sure something will be open Friday. If the snow conditions/weather are good either should be fine for you (plenty of runs that are not too challenging), good reports from Avoriaz though. Not sure about the lift pass so ask when you arrive. I think its one area only.
Sure you'll have a great time anyway.

Chose le tour as a little rest day. I'll be hitting Chamonix on the back of 6 days skiing already so thought i'd go for a cruise day. If the vallee blanche is closed then I’ll defiantly head off to brevent/flegere.
What about ski hire?

If it’s all open it'll be fine. You have the men and women’s Olympic runs to have a pop at also. Not on the top of my list to return to but defiantly worth a visit especially with a day trip over to serre chev and a run on the Olympic bob sleigh run!!

Went March last year with a group of 16. Lively resort but some slow old lifts. If you get good snow, plenty to keep you occupied especially with the linked resorts and day trips available.

Going to Chamonix, 3 days early Jan, 2 good intermediates, looking for some advise;
Where should I hire ski's from?
Best place to get a guide for the Vallee Blanche?
Shall I pre book for the Aiguille du Midi/Grand Montets or just turn up?
Was thinking;
Day 1 Le Tour (Wed)
Day 2 Grands Montets (Thurs)
Day 3 Vallee Blanche (Fri) Shall I ski it more than once or move on in the afternoon?
Thanks
