Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

We are off to San Cassiano for the first time on Saturday. What can we expect from the slopes? It's looking like it could be worryingly warm!

Hello - we are off to San Cassiano next week and very much looking forward to it. Does anyone know if there are any pools in the area we could use? I’ve seen the one in La Villa but was just wondering if there was anything else? Any other tips much appreciated! Thanks
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I've found some flights with KLM for £145 to Venice. I'm guessing this is pretty good for half term?

Hello, I am planning a trip to Corvara during half term next year - 15th -22nd Feb. I will be looking for flights from Manchester and am guessing that Venice will be the best option... does anyone know when these will become available or where I should be looking? Thanks

Thanks everyone - a lot to consider. I hadn't really realised NY would be overly busy (naive, I know). Is it worse than half term? That's when we usually ski... Christmas week isn't really an option due to family commitments but early April could be a decent alternative. It may be time to go back to the drawing board!
Then you'll get to see more forums.

Hello We usually ski at half term due to kids/wife’s job but that isn’t looking possible next year so I am looking in to New Year skiing as an alternative. We are low to middling intermediates and as a family are not too fussed about the apres. We usually do self catering/room only. I quite fancy somewhere a bit different so have been looking at Trysil and Banff... are they likely to be too cold/not have much snow? Would we better off looking somewhere high in France/Italy/Austria? Any advice/recommendations would be much appreciated! :D

It's still a bit too far out but we are coming on the 17th (the only week we could make it) and it looks like temps might start to rise then... should we be worried at all or would it just mean nice spring conditions? We are only piste skiers...

@TheGeneralist, that's very interesting - do you know when the flights are out? I'm not sure whether to book or wait. Worried the Lufthansa flights will go up extortionately if I don't book now! Thanks for all the suggestions... It's currently cheaper to fly to Lyon with Lufthansa than to Munich at half term. Would this be a crazy option? We are looking for a family friendly area that has a number of blues (my kids are still young and my wife is competent but not confident). We have been to Alpbach for the last 2 years but are ready to move on now. Is there anywhere that fits the bill reachable from Lyon that wouldn't be ridiculously packed?
You know it makes sense.

I'm resurrecting an old thread here but was wondering if anyone can advise in relation to flights for next year - I'm looking for flights from Manchester to Munich with Lufthansa for 17th - 24th Feb but it seems like they are going to be a lot more than they were this year... will they still be the cheapest option or will it be worth waiting for other flights to come out?

rogg, If I see anything I'll let you know! cathy, Lift pass prices are pretty shocking aren't they! If I can find a deal on flights and accommodation similiar to what I got last time though it would still be just about worth it I think... Biddy Twiddle, Inghams have prices for next year listed on their website. No cheap deals yet though...

Hi all, I went to Banff a few years ago, had a fantastic time, and now I fancy going back! We got a brilliant early bird deal when we went and have seen a few similiar in the years since but I can't seem to see anything out there at the moment. Does anyone know when/if the cheap deals to Banff are likely to come out? Any current deals? Didn't get to ski this season for numerous reasons so am really eager to get something booked for 2012!

smudger, hatpegs, even if the forecasts say rain at 1172m, they aren't generally very good at predicting what will happen to a particular type of snow flake as it falls down to that level. I mean, the right kind of snow will still land as snow even if the 0deg isotherm is at 1800m. And they also are not very good at predicting what different types of precipitation will do when they land on snow that's at -5degC - settle, melt, melt the snow they land on, form a layer etc etc. just keep your fingers crossed. Best advice ;-) Quote: just keep your fingers crossed. Best advice I'll cross everything I have!
You know it makes sense.

andyph, for some reason I have been thinking that this prediction is at a fairly high altitude so a prediction of just under zerod deg c would mean rain lower down in the resort... I'd be happy to be wrong though! :)

Can anyone with knowledge of this stuff tell me if this is worrying as I think it is? http://www.wzkarten.de/pics/MS_746_ens.png I'm guessing it is predicting rain for the 4th/5th but I'm not sure how high up it will be snow!

Hi, I'm looking to organise a D.I.Y long weekend (i.e Thursday to Monday) for a group of friends in Feb or March next year. I know a week would be easier to organise but because of time off and kids etc this is all we can do! Can anyone tell me when decent (cheap) flights from the Northwest to airports near resorts in Europe are released? Any other tips on booking a long weekend? All help gratefuly received as always :sH:

My friend is coming to Banff with us on Wednesday. It was due to be his first ski trip but he's broken his 4th metacarpal playing rugby at the weekend! It's not in a cast but is badly swollen at the moment. Do you think there is any chance he will be able to ski? As it's his first time on skis I predict many a fall which might make it difficult... Has anyone skied with a broken hand before? Any advice? :(
