Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Yes, should be fine, they did in March 2017 when I flew Leeds-Salzburg and took a ski tube and separate boot bag. Their FAQ states that ski carriage includes poles & boots so a boot bag should be OK, but combined weight shouldn't exceed 22kgs. https://www.jet2.com/faqs?topic=baggage-and-sports-equipment&category=sports-equipment-and-other-outsize-items
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name.

Assuming St J im T then there is a lovely black ?womens world cup course down to Oberndorf - not too hard especially in good snow - I would rate it more a red than a black personally and a very ncie bar restaurant at the bottom that is a real sun trap. Of course as QPP says if you get the wider pass then you can go to Kitzbuhel as well where there are peltny of lovely long raking blues and the train is covered between St J and Kitz between certain hours in your lift pass price - best to get off at Hahnenkamm stop and not Kitzbuhel itself as that takes you straight to the gondola. Thanks for this! I think my husband was talking about that run, sounds good. I am minded to get the wider pass (just need to work out the exact name and the price difference) because that will give us more variety. I think I would be quite happy pootling along in St Johann i.T but as for the others! So am I right in thinking that you’re saying the Hahnenkamm stop is best for the Kitz main gondola? Either way, thanks again! It’s the Salzburger superski pass Yes the Hahnenkamm stop for the Hahnenkamm gondola, just a short walk over the railway line. I was in St Johann last year and can confirm that there is no longer a free ski bus service between St Johann and Fieberbrunn, now that Fieberbrunn has joined with Saalbach. Not even the super ski pass covers transport between these two anymore. There is a payable postbus though.

Well I've really enjoyed these olympic games. So many talented athletes from first timers to experienced veterans. My favourite highlight has to be Lizzy retaining her gold medal, but other highlights for me include the brilliance of Marit Bjørgen, Ester Ledecká, Johannes Thingnes Bø, Shaun White, the USA ladies cross country sprint team and the South Korean ladies curling team. Roll on 2022!

The rumour I heard when I was out there last week, was that there is some kind of dispute over the installation of avi fences along that section. Saw a few skiers sliding down the side of the black 52 on their bum with friend/other half behind carrying their skis behind them last week. I dread to think what it's like this week.

I've only been to Kappl once, a few years back now, and can't really remember, but was in Galtur a few weeks back. I think Kappl and Galtur are both similar in size. I recall that Kappl may have a sunnier aspect. Galtur though in my opinion is more scenic with some really lovely tree lined runs leading down to the lake and the old 2 man chairlift over on the far side has been replaced with a gondola this year. I'm sure you'll have a great day, wherever you end up :sH:

@musher, from knowledge i hope! (no cheeky google image searching!) Congratulations! I learned to ski here (aside from a few days on a dry slope) about 25 years ago! This is a photo I stole off the internet earlier because I was at work, but it's taken on top of a slope called "The Wall" and as a young lad... it was my goal to ski it and ski it well! Over to you!! Same here, a couple of years later but sounds like I was a few years older :-) Great memories and excellent tuitiion!

I see next week they are interviewing Jérémie Heitz, who's film 'La Liste' is well worth checking out on Red Bull TV. We saw this in Lausanne a couple of months ago and he was interviewed afterwards on stage. He attempts to ski a list of Europe's toughest & steepest off piste slopes. Really scary and jaw dropping stuff Just watched it - holy crap!!!

I still have mine, haven't used them for a long time but that's only due to baggage restrictions. As others have said they're a great tool when learning to ski and good fun too. You won't know if you like them unless you give them a try :sH:

It was the first night of my very first learn to ski holiday in Pamporovo with 2 housemates and the hotel we were staying in was on quite a steep hill. I couldn't understand why people were gingerly walking down trying not to slip and decided it would be much easier to just slide down the relatively short hill on my feet. Of course I hadn't thought about how I was going to stop and after sliding about 4 feet I'd already gathered too much momentum to stop with any kind of dignity and ended up running head long into a (thankfully soft) snow bank at the bottom of the hill. Lesson learned 8-)

Hopefully the bank will be able to confirm for you. Bit of a long shot, but googling location-ski brought up http://location-ski.sport2000.fr. If you select English, it then changes the website address to http://ski-hire-sport2000.co.uk which may or may not look familiar?

I'm also in Ischgl and have also been impressed with the condition of the pistes. Was surprised at how good the red 80 run into Samnaun was! Spring like conditions this afternoon but still not too bad. Not sure if I'll bother skiing down further than the middle station tomorrow though, as the combination of ice and sugar snow isn't great.

I'm in exactly the same situation as you OP. We've always gone over Christmas but after 2 years of very little snow, we're going to gamble on a last minute deal trying to follow the snow this time and if nothing comes up or it's all booked out, we'll go a few weeks later in January instead.

I'm an inch shorter, 60kgs and like to ski edge to edge rather than slide so seek out a ski with a good 'pop'. I loved the Rossignol Sin 7 which I tested at Tamworth. They're a little wider than I was initially looking for, but they really did perform brilliantly in the fridge. Nice and poppy, great edge to edge capability yet seemed solid as a rock. They ski very short though so the 172 would be the right length, I would definitely recommend that you test them out fully on piste though. The ladies version is the Saffron 7 but they're exactly the same ski apparently in all but colours. The other skis I really liked were the Volkl Kenja, in fact they were my fave until I tried the Sin 7. The Black Pearls came third for me. I'm currently skiing on Scott Mayas which I've really enjoyed as they're so confidence inspiring, but they're not quite stiff enough and I feel I need a ski with a longer turn radius. I was going to buy the Sin 7s this season, but head had to rule heart as I needed a new jacket and will need to book in with CEM for new boots before next season.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Headed to Schattberg and was pleasantly surprised how deserted the black 1 was, it was in fab condition too. The blues were pretty cut up. Now got achey knees but 33km skied today so not too shabby ;) Fully intended to see Cuckoo at Bobby's last night but was shattered. My fitness needs improving!

It was amazing wasn't it! Hubby and I were on the 1st lift up Scattberg Xpress and went clockwise. The black 14 was fabulous. Proper mashed potato slushfest though after lunch coming back to Saalbach. Across to Leogang this morning and currently deciding where to head this afternoon from Wildenkarkogel as was going to head to Schattberg but the sun is out again!

the French and Swiss ones... my niece and family were in St Anton which had the same number of pistes open as Les Saisies. 8. Absolutely not worth skiing - icy, horrifically crowded. I was in St Anton at Christmas and that statement simply isn't true of the week as a whole. It wasn't ideal but most days were certainly skiable and not too crowded due it still being early season. There was also a reduction by the lift company in the price of the lift pass to compensate for the limited skiing area and the snow cannons were working hard. The only day that we felt wasn't worth skiing was Christmas Eve due to the ridiculously warm Spring like conditions the day before meaning the snow cannons couldn't run and knowing there would be an increase in numbers on the mountain. Fresh snow then fell on Christmas Day and didn't stop the whole of Boxing Day which was fantastic. In fact our trip to Whistler the year before was worse in terms of icy/patchy conditions.

Woohoo, have booked a week in Saalbach leaving a week on Saturday! This year I thought was going to be the year that I finally get around to giving Italy or France a try, but it seems I just can't tear myself away from Austria. The Ski Circus is pretty much the only large ski area left that hubby and I haven't visited. @Tatman's Tours, you have a PM winging its way to you with a request for your written guide :sH: Our skis have some deep scratches to the bases after skiing rocks and grass over Christmas week in St Anton. My skis also need edging. Can anyone recommend a good reasonably priced ski service place in Saalbach?

I haven't tried the Soul 7s but I tried the Sin 7's at the Snowheads trial at Tamworth fridge and loved them. I'm a girl 5'6, 57kgs and found the 172's perfect for me. Wanted to but didn't get to try them in St Anton over Christmas week due to the lack of snow, but I'm hopefully going to get back out to the Alps some time again this season and would dearly love to try them out properly with a view to buying. They gave a nice amount of pop and were almost ridiculously easy to get from edge to edge which I wasn't expecting. Not sure ultimately how lively they are given the limited run I had at Tamworth, but I was grinning all the way home. I'm also not too bothered that my current skis got a bit wrecked skiing mud/stones in St Anton ;-)
