Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

When I raced we didn’t wear helmets for Slalom or GS, Super G hadn’t been invented & we had proper wooden poles with flags on top! We collected some colourful bruises! We also just had a bit of sponge padding in jumpers and trousers.

You also can’t compare treatments between today and many years ago. The knowledge and technology have come on in leaps and bounds, not to mention the materials available.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name.

@rob@rar, to be fair, these are rare events. I have had 1 trip in a blood wagon in 50+ years. I don’t plan to have more! I buy insurance on an annual multi trip policy which covers off-piste skiing with(out) a guide. What extra does the skipass insurance provide? They always ask if I want it but I just assume I don’t need it as I’m already covered.

@LaForet, I still think that’s what credit cards are for! Gets you off the hill & then let the insurance company argue about costs. Also means that when you hurt yourself at lunchtime Saturday and only have the work experience grunt at the insurance company to talk to you are 1. Doing so from the comfort of a medical centre & 2. Able to take an executive decision to pay & leave even when said grunt tells you not to. How on earth they thought I was going to be able to leave without paying when they didn’t have the authority to agree to it over the phone is still a mystery! :P
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@Bigtipper, the litter around here makes me ashamed to be British! I don’t know why you think electric cars will hold fewer people prepared to lob beer cans and McDonalds wrappers out the window into the hedge!

@boarder2020, that’s the point. One strand of this thread is looking at swift recovery to allow participants to do it again the following day. The other strand is a discussion about the best longer term treatments for injury. If I’m on a skiing holiday and suffer a minor soft tissue injury all I’m interested in doing is getting back out tomorrow. Edited when I realised what an @rse I was making of myself!

Courmayeur has more restaurants than lifts, great family atmosphere, a real town & the Pre St Didier thermal baths.

Rest Ice Compression Elevation All help to reduce inflammation. The inflammation itself can exacerbate the injury. Ice & Compression mechanically reduce blood flow to the injury site. The Elevation element means keep the injury above the heart to help drain the blood and lymph away using gravity.

@admin, also 3 seconds may not sound much but in a race of 100ish seconds it’s 3%, an unbridgeable gap. Frank Williams was asked what made his cars so dominant. He replied something along the lines of it being a race of 120 minutes so 0.5% advantage is about 36 seconds. Spread over 100k components in the car he couldn’t possibly tell what it was but it turned races into a procession.

Thinking of Galileo’s experiments, I wouldn’t expect weight to make any difference to speed in a straight line down hill. @Masque, was getting very excited last night - had drinks been taken?

@Masque, I have no idea what you’re talking about however, seeing as you mentioned horses, equestrian sports are among the very few in which men & women compete on equal terms.

I was lucky enough to have parents who ski. I had my 5th birthday in Hinterglemm. Lace up leather boots, cable bindings. 51 years later I have had a few work related non skiing years in the interim but this will be the first season I’ve missed this century.

It is just a great feeling to let your skis do the work and just let them turn one way then the other. You feel like you’re floating. Snowboarding always looks hard work.

The bit that terrifies me is the Mausefalle. The hill is very steep, falling away from you as you launch off. After flying 40+ metres, on touching down you have to immediately turn a right angle onto a road at 80+ mph!

@Timbobaggins, do they still retain their camber & spring? If not, change them as they’re dead. If you like Dynastar have a look at the various sizes of Legend, for me they’re very good all purpose skis. I have the X96 length 186cm - they ski shorter than they look due to the rocker. Of course it’s probably better to try before you buy, so it’s a good excuse come over to OktoberTest! :-D
