Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

We're probably not up for anything too technical with ropes etc. Probably someone with a bit of local knowledge to take us on the best runs and show us a bit of off piste (conditions / powder permitting) A day is doable if that is all that is on offer.

Hello, I posted this in the weather reports forum but realised there isn't much action in there! Hello all. I'm coming to Verbier in a few weeks with a mixed group of skiers and snowboarders and we're looking for a guide for either off or on piste, depending on conditions. A couple of questions, if I may? Would a guide be prepared to take a mixed group of skiers and boarders, (4 of each) or would we need separate guides? Would a guide be prepared to take us for half a day only? Can anyone recommend a good guide / company? Any idea on a rough cost? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Stopping on the piste is not sensible. Stop to the side out of the way - that also applies to the person filming.

Obviously you can't excuse the fact that the errant skier has hit someone downhill, and that they should be aware of what is in front of them, but that 'victim' stopped in a very silly place. No need at all to stop there IMO

We've booked flights on the Wednesday 23rd March to Barcelona. Fly around 6pm land at around 930. Should arrive into andorra around 12.30am Thursday. Fly back late on bank holiday Monday I think around 10pm. 5 days skiing for 1 day holiday isn't too bad

@Frank Lundy, Question - why not looking at the Burton Flight Attendant? I'd not really looked at this board tbf. Just had a look at some reviews and it definitely seems to fit the. I'll demo it at chill factor in th NY. Thanks

Hi snow heads. I posted this in the equipment review forum but got no response so hopefully it will be OK to post here too? I'm looking for a new board. Just got rid of my Burton Bullet which I loved because it was stable at speed. I'm not a park monkey, I like covering miles on piste with the odd natural kicker on the way. So don't want anything bendy. I've been reading reviews on lots of boards and I'm currently torn between the tough cat and custom x. The guy at my local shop said they don't stock either board as they are both for people looking for something extra, which most of their customers aren't. He thinks I should test the standard camber custom and if that isn't stiff enough then he will order one of the former 2. Has anybody here ridden either or both? Or any idea how the standard custom compares to these 2? I'm by no means stuck to these choices,I'll be trying other makes of board but just wanted to see if I could find some opinions of people who have ridden these particular boards I'd be very grateful for any comments
And they're a friendly bunch.

Evening snow heads! We've just booked flights to Barcelona for the easter Bank hols and are planning to go to Andorra, but we don't know which resort. I board whilst my fiancee skis. We're both at a similar standard where we can and will ski blacks but aren't necessarily looking for majorly technical stuff. We are really looking for Some varied runs and a decent bit of atmosphere / apres whilst not out for the getting hammered . Any recommendations?

Hi everyone We're hoping to book a four night trip over easter weekend and the best flights are working out to fly into Milan. I'm looking for suggestions for a town that has some traditional character and charm, with good pistes for a skier and a snowboarder, both adventurous intermediates, and we'd also like some lively apres-ski but not too mental. Having looked at some places already I'm aware there aren't many options left, but would be interested to hear about places that might fit the bill and we'll see if there's any accommodation left! Thanks in advance!

I went on a late season trip to La Thuile recently and used the Trace snow app for the first time. My highest speed was 55.3mph which I was quite happy with. have any of my fellow snow heads used This app? If so, what speedshave you recorded? As an aside, how accurate do you think these apps are?

@Jj72, I've booked the Alpinresort in Saalbach for £1080 for a week next year with Neil&son. Direct with the hotel would have been €211 a night - so about the same money, but not including the flight and transfer... You never can tell... my fiancee and I stayed there in January this year for £930 each fora week and it was worth every single penny. That included flights and transfers with Neilson. I will definitely go back again. You're going to have a great holiday (ssnow permitting)

Thanks for the tips. I generally board quite quickly (Where appropriate) so not too fussed about the flats. My friend, however, has only done a week boarding so will try to pick and choose the runs where possible. Surface lifts can be a drag but will give them a go anyhow. I'll try to do a TR when we're back.

I worked as chalet chef and my girlfriend a host back in 09/10. We left after around 6 weeks as they treated their guests and staff with utter contempt. The only surprise about this is that it took so long. Hope the people who have booked with them will be refunded somehow

My favourite dishonest the hholiday was the Tyroler Grostl. Wait till you try the 'Speck mit Ei' in the Bergeralm! Glad you managed to decipher that garble. We didn't eat in the bergeralm, unfortunately. Will be sure to try it upon our return

Arrived back from Saalbach yesterday and I'm happy to say that we had an amazing time. The only negative was that we didn't have a dump of snow mid - week as a few of the slopes could have done with it. We stayed in the Alpinresort Sport & Spa and would recommend it to anyone. The staff were all extremely accommodating and couldn't do enough for you. We stayed all inclusive a and found it incredible value. We drank really nice wines and cocktails all week. The bar staff would also make any cocktails that weren't on the menu on request. The room was spacious with lots of wardrobe space, a sofa, a recliner chair, a flat screen TV (which we didn't use as it was Germany satellite) and a Jacuzzi bath with shower. We were fortunate to be allocated a corner room with a large balcony with some cracking views out towards Shattberg and down towards vorderglemm. The spa facilities were excellent. There is an area where everyone can go naked (although this is not compulsory) with saunas steam rooms and relaxing beds and water beds. The outdoor pool was nice and warm and the are a couple of outdoor Jacuzzis. There was a sauna and jacuzzi in which swimwear was compulsory for those who don't like see it all hag out. The ski area was very good. Lots of varied runs, snow parks and slalom runs. A few too many flat tracks for my liking as a boarder but once you got to know where they were then you could keep your speed up accordingly. We used the ski bus a couple of times and found it to be very efficient and easy to use. We ate in several mountain restaurants and all were reasonable in terms of price. My favourite lunch dish of the holiday was the Tyroler Grostl. A lovely mix of potatoes meat and a fried egg. Apre was very good. We only made the hinterhag on the Friday , unfortunately. We did aim to go on Wednesday but missed the last lift and didn't fancy the walk up. The band in the hinterhag were great fun and had the place rocking. We got there at 3pm as we were knackered and it was a good job we did. Once everyone arrives the place is heaving so getting g a good spot is impossible. We saw spacey in otzi bar and he was excellent. Playing an array of different music on his guitar and generally taking the mick out of the crowd. We also saw him at spite bub for Apre a when he did a different show which whilst good , wasn't as good as his later slot. All in all we loved Saalbach and are tying to convince our friends to book with us for next year. This our first experience of skiing / snowboarding in Austria and we can't believe how the French resorts can be so busy when you can do it so much cheaper and in a place with charm and character.

I've made a bit of a faux pas in that I've just realised that my snowboard boots are a touch on the small side and hence uncomfortable. I don't have the time to buy some new boots here as we fly to Saalbach early on Saturday morning. Are the prices at the shops in resort that much higher than elsewhere to put me off treating myself when we arrive? If not do any of you have any recommendations as to which shops might be the best?

@Frank Lundy, Stay there in April last year and it's a fantastic hotel, absolutely loved it. The food is top draw and the Spa is amazing. We're going out on the 17th so might see you there. :D Sounds perfect!! See you out on the slopes or at the bar. Look out for a cool looking boarder wearing Joseph's technicolour dream coat
