Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@MajorMarmaduke, La Mine had football on over Christmas when we were out there but couldn't say if that was BT or Sky.

An hour isn't bad, once you have it in your mind to do it, just get it done. During the week put the football on the radio or music if not. I do Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this time of the year, once you get into the routine it becomes okay and soon flies by.

Not many bars in 1850 but Ku-De-Ta is okay and has free wifi. Can't remember if it was reasonably priced, probably not! I try not to think of how much it is, just enjoy it.

We were on a lift which stopped in Val Thorens this Christmas in bad conditions. Could barely see the chair in front and it was snowing. Waited about 5 mins and it moved a few metres then stopped again. Got going again about 15 to 20 mins later just as we were starting to feel chilly. At the top the operator came and apologised to us and handed us a yellow ticket giving us a free drink in a choice of mountain restaurants which I thought was a nice gesture.
You know it makes sense.

I can recommend Hotel Gotthard in Lech. We stayed there in the August 2006 on our first summer trip to the alps. Its a family run hotel that also has a bakery under the hotel supplying most of the village. The staff were so friendly and were only too pleased to help out in any way. One morning they put on a mountain breakfast up in the hills by a mountain hut they own. There are plenty of ski lifts open in the summer and a good bus service in the area to access loads of walking paths.

ecologyemissions, My dad fell/slipped down there in the same style over new year. Just passed the large moguls at the top, picked up too much speed, fell and cartwheeled down about 200m. This photo show where his skis eventually came off about half way down the fall. http://www.snowmediazone.com/the_zone/data/500/thumbs/Alpe_d_Huez_080.jpg

About 20 years a girlfriend and I had a 24 hour delay on a Virgin flight. We was in Florida waiting to come home but the plane coming out had problems and turned back to the UK. They put us up in a hotel for the night with food and gave us 2 tickets to fly with Virgin anywhere in the World. Split up with that girlfriend and never saw those tickets....

Used my Nationwide account to get cash from machine over new year in Alpe d'Huez. Their rates were 1.171, 1.168, 1.162 & 1.16 - decreasing as the week went on. They charge £1.00 per withdrawal and 2% commission. So for a 300 Euro withdrawal the commission was £5.12.

I would go and see a physio, I did a similar thing 6 years ago and can still feel a line in my leg which I can only describe as missing muscle. I just left mine and didn't think much of it at the time.

I've never had a problem with taking children on chair lifts when we are going up. I suppose its because when our children were smaller they were always in ski school and therefore relied on others to get them to the top. I find a little helping hand in the back on landing for the small ones works fine.

Kruisler, My shared chalet nightmare? Turning up to find that the rest of the guest are a bunch of red hot swedish girls, that hate to wear anything but skimpy stuff when in the chalet, love hot tubs, are ski/snowboard instructors, are all just out of serious relationships and looking for some holiday fun....and are the sharing type... 4 of us (boys holiday) are off to Val d'Isere next week staying in a chalet for 14, the above would be our worst nightmare :-D :-D

I'm not bothered too much by the 3* or 4*, the most important thing for me on a family holiday with young children is location. I would pay the extra to be as close to the slopes as possible. It's hard work carrying 3 sets of skis!!

LaLaPo, agree with geepee, about the transport, was simple. We also used the luggage service (can't remember the proper name for it) where you check your suitcases in at the station and they deliver them to your hotel. We went with on a Kuoni package so if there were any extra costs they were in the overall price. We took one smaller case with us with stuff we needed that night / the next morning.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

CarlT, personally I like to try different resorts, only once you have can you compair. I have been to Val Thorens, Courchevel and LDA. At LDA I didn't like the the long lift up every morning and to me the runs seemed to be stretched in a straight line away from the town rather than around it. If for example you have kids at ski school you seem to spend ages getting up the hill, far away from town only to have to make your way back down again for meeting them at lunch.

bobalicious, twice they told me they would be delivered in 2 to 3 days. 1st time nothing so phoned the number Dunk suggested and the lady there then said I would receive them in 2 to 3 days and a courier would phone to arrange delivery. Like you I thought I would never see the bags again, but today out of the blue (no phone call  ) they turned up :) And welcome to :sH:

We went to Saas Fee in the summer of 2008 and skied one morning. Hadn't planned to go skiing so had none of the gear, just hired out what we needed. All in all a lot of effort for one morning of skiing but we had fun. There were about 25 international teams up there traing so the lifts down around midday were busy but not unbearable. Here is a video of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbnGdLSlr3s

bodhi, we used them over New Year and it was the best service I have had from a hire shop. They collect you from your chalet (or hotel) and take you to the shop. They get you to fill in a form about your ability so they can match equipment to suit your needs. They asked questions to see what sort of skiing you enjoy / do the most and choose skis to suit. They then dropped us back off with all the equipment, so no walking back carrying it all, especially good if you have young children who can't carry much. After you have finished on the last day you just leave all the gear in the ski locker and they collect it all the next day. Edited because I'm an idiot, we used Snowberry !!
