Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I think we should all make a personal commitment to ski in Italy next season, they're REALLY going to need our help. Yes definitely, Did something similar after 9/11, had never thought of going to NY, but a group of us decided to support local tourist industry with a trip in the year following and next year sounds a good time to support Italian tourism.

We are flying into Munich tomorrow morning. Great train links to skiwelt and they had a decent snow fall in last few days and temperatures have fallen back.

How GFS12z sees the snowfall out to Monday 1800z. Usual caveats apply. http://www2.wetter3.de/Animation_00_UTC_05Grad/186_24.gif Is this predicted snowfall. Heading to skiwelt which I think is pretty close to the 98, is that cms of snowfall predicted

As a family we learnt to ski in Lofer Austria and loved the place but we out grew it and as the kids got older we out grew it. It does have fabulous ski schools for all ages. Now we all ski in the skiwelt. Any of the resorts are good for learning. Last year we went for Christmas and tbh, dont think I would go for Christmas again, just too early in the season and nervous December waiting for snow. This year went for New Year, not too sure I would go for this week again. The crowds were huge. 30 minute wait for each lift. So I would pick Easter from your dates, pick a high resorts. You will have a brilliant holiday Off next week with our 4 adult kids for what I know will be our last family holiday for a lot of years. :sH:

Such a shame the tone of this weather thread have changed. The weather outlook threads always seemed to be a useful steer of generally what is happening with the weather, not too serious and somewhere for a steer (in my case when to think about heading to the slopes for a short trip at short notice) or perhaps somewhere for others to look ahead what might be coming up for their holiday booked a long time ago, all with some good-natured banter. Is this season as good as the particularly good last year? No. Is is a complete disaster? No. Sure, off-piste in the areas I have skied have not been great as some previous years but piste skiing has been enjoyable with the snow holding up well (in the areas I have been) and suprisingly good at the start of the season and far from a disaster currently; I have skied worse. Can we please get back to somehere that isn't who is the more optimistic or pessimistic and to what we all have in common - skiing and the enjoyment of the mountains. + 1

Ok here is my Take on skiing. I was 42 for 1st ski trip. First few were spent with young kids trying to do it on the cheap. Minding goggles, gloves, lift pass etc. Had a few trips without kids and did improve Fast forward now 52, need to loose a few stone and not as fit as I should be. Over New Year went skiing with acquaintanceand they were a lot better skiers, really felt out of my comfort zone and knew beforehand this is how it would be. My ideal holiday is, maybe 10 days, ski for 7, not over New Year or midterm, ski a bit, stop for coffee, ski another few runs, stop for lunch, ski another few runs, ski run to resort, stop for drink, bit of apres, dinner I love all things snow and winter, mountains and lakes, I spend a lot on this holiday and doing it at my pace from here on. In a few weeks having our Last family ski trip for a few years, oldest lad getting married, daughter heading off travelling and youest 2 at college, really looking forward to this trip, hopefully 5 days skiing and just making happy memories and lots of photo ups.
which other snowHeads love to answer.

One year in Austria my son had a youth pass 16/18. He was stopped a few times getting on lifts throughout the week and had to produce his passport to prove his age.

We always get Bayern ticket and change a Munich ost. Use Google maps and it will tell you which platform to transfer to. Bayern ticket only valid on Meridian train (blue). Contact your accommodation before travel and ask them to post Wilder Kaiser Card or maybe it can be emailed. This allows free bus travel.

Obvious Austrian destinations if you love the Ski Circus would be the SkiWelt (Söll or Brixen being our favourites), or Flachau in the Ski Amadé region. Söll is about 90 minutes from Munich or Innsbruck, or 2 hours from Salzburg. Flachau is 45 minutes from Salzburg. Both are also reachable by train with a short taxi transfer of 3-4 miles from the station, or Brixen has a station in the village. The SkiWelt is full of cruisy reds and blues with a few blacks to keep it interesting, and of course with an extended pass you can also ski in Kitzbuhel. Flachau itself is slightly limited, but is linked to Wagrain by the G-Link gondola, and a short bus ride takes you to Flachauwinkl and Zauchensee via Highport, both of which are also excellent areas. More than enough to keep you busy for a week or two in either location, plus there are several day trip options from each if you want to explore a bit and have a car + 1 for skiwelt
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

We went to Soll in Austria this summer. It was very warm. We had days of 28 degrees in the mountain and 33 in the valley. We had a fab time. Rented mountain bikes, swam in lakes. As a couple we did find the night life very quiet

We love SteinplAtte and will be there over New Year. Hopefully skiing. Every year I start getting Nervy after booking so early in the season. Great place for kids. Haven't tried ski school but there are plenty around. We also like to ski over to Winklmoos which is great for beginners.

Yes getting Stoked, going for 2weeks over Christmas/New Year with various members of family joining for a belated 50th celebration. Already kinda regretting booking so early in the season, but with people only needing 3days annual leave couldn’t help but picking those dates. I have already starting checking daily the weather thread. also need to stick to my diet better and up my spinning class So definitely getting stoked
