Type: Ski Race Team

Purpose

My name is Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong. I am a 29 year old Ghanaian born in Glasgow, Scotland. I spent most of my early years travelling with my Dad around the world. I was educated up to university level in Ghana, where I studied Travel and Tourism. I have currently finished my masters in Travel and Tourism Management in the UK.

I have always loved sports and have had the opportunity of competing at university level in track and field, volleyball, basket ball, football, badminton, etc and represented Ghana in the West African Students Games in Lawn Tennis. I hold a number of awards and certificates in the various sports I have competed in.

I got involved in skiing (which had always fascinated me) as a result of working at the Snozone Xscape indoor ski centre about 2 years ago. It was whilst working at Xscape, my current coaches noticed that I had a natural talent for the sport. I entered my first competition over a year ago finishing in the top10 out of a field of 60 experienced ski racers.

It was at this point I had the desire to compete at a higher level, and spoke to my coach and enquired about whether this would be possible. He said it was and jokingly said ‘why not go all the way and compete in the Winter Olympics'.

That Is When The Journey To My Olympic Dream Began.

He is currently travelling throughout Europe and beyond (Kwame is in Iran this weekend) without any funding towards living, travel, Hotels, Taxis etc. (see News: 24.02.05) .

Although Kwame has had some great support throughout, we are still in need of vital funding to keep the challenge alive.

We need funding for coaching fees and for the general support needed to keep Kwame training and racing and generating the qualification points he needs.
