Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Eurpoean directive - Snow is too slippery

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I could not avoid laughing at this evening's article from the London Evening Standard as I finalised my packing for tomorrows ski trip :

" ... a series of bizarre new safety regulations .....

..... climbers will have to swap ropes for scaffolding while mountain paths will feature signs warning " snow is slippery " ( no kiddin' ... check it out yourself! ).

... walkers will have to conduct risk assessments and working in
" unfavourable weather conditions " is discouraged. Instructors will also be prevented from teaching groups on their own.

Mountainer Sir Chris Bonnington said it was a case of " the nanny state gone mad . The whole point of the outdoor industry is that there is an element of risk. .... without that we may as well pack up "

Silly season or not?

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Read the article myself and thought it was daf too. But

I still like to express a word of thank to the person (most likely a Brit judging from the hand writing) who on the last day of Feb 2004 worte a message on a blackboard at the top of Les Arc Aiguille Rouge cable car warning the skiers of -24 degree temperature, icy/slippery condition and ask them to take care. That was the only warmth I had on that day in the whole mountain. It was the way the message was written that I can still sense his/her kind intention even today.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

saikee, all part of the new 'customer care' approach in Les Arcs! Little messages of welcome, anecdotes, funnies, cartoons, they're trying to make visitors feel at ease....

I'm not trying to be sceptical by the way - I do think it's the right approach, and I believe - although I'm not 100% sure about this - that individual lifties have a degree of freedom in what they write/draw...

PS good job you weren't there the next morning - it went down to -30°C ! (Haven't we had this conversation somewhere else?!!....)
