Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi All,
I know it's been a while since I was last on here but I need a little advice.
It's K's birthday (the big Hawaii one) in 2013. We are seriously thinking of going to Canada for the first time. So have no idea what would be best for us.
We have now managed to progress to european standards onto Green, Blue, Red and even some Black runs with reasonable confidence.
We would be looking to be staying in a resort with a reasonable amount of Apres Ski but with easy access to lifts/bus to the slopes.
So, with that premise have any 's had any experience of the above to be able to give me some advice on where to possibly go.
Many thanks
Ken

Battlezone, could well be defrosting and quarantine issues with frozen curries entering Canada! Can't see the Canadian apres being to your required standards

Topugh one..
Banff or Whistler should have enough Bars and Resturants to cover Apres.
although still nowhere close to the Ischfgl/St Anton Scene..
Not really convinced on the ski / bus convience thing for N America, always seems to me that the resorts that have accomodation
with sensible slope access have a very limited Apre scene...
Banff I believe is now a case of multiple busses to get to the slope (bus to central terminal then from terminal to chosen 'ski hill').
Hmmm.. Whistler it is then

Battlezone, I think you'd both love Banff (Sunshine) as long as you are happy to get the bus to the hill and back, so limits apres at the mountain a bit. Alternatively, yes Whistler or Breckenridge if you'd consider the USA
We tend to go for slopeside accommodation - Fernie, Panorama, Big White - but there's no real apres at all.
Happy Borfda pet

Thanks all.
As some of you may know, we do like to party now and then. But as long as we are in a decent hotel with decent ambiance and decent peeps we'll be happy! Oh! Some decent skiing nearby would be good!
Looking at ski brochures it seems to be Banff & Whistler that are getting a nose in front of the rest of the pack. I think where ever we end up I'm sure it will be OK. I mean 6 years ago we didn't even know the Alps existed

It's been a while. But we opted for Banff. There's nine of us going, spread between two adjacent hotels.
After spending a week in Selva over the New Year we had a bit of acclimatisation. It never got above freezing! As a result we've bought more base layers. Hopefully the right ones!
The clock is ticking. Not long now!
