Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Quick resort help for a friend

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
A friend is looking for resorts in Austria or Italy that are high or have got a lot of snow predicted for / that would last through next week.

He tried Kaprun, Solden and Obergurgl but can't find a place at a reasonable price.

He'd be driving from Romania so France is too far.

Level: intermediate, so powder and offpiste opportunities aren't necessary.

Can anyone help with suggestions?

Cervinia in Italy is snow-sure.

Shouldn't this be in the Resorts category? Wink

Cedric, Austria has had a great season. More snow and cold temperatures are promised this week. Anywhere in Austria would do. Coming form Romania the Salzburg resorts are nearest. How about Obertauern? It's snowing today, temp -4C, and nearly 2 metres of snow on the piste.

Just when I thought the season was all but over we are forecast to get even more snow this week and the temps are dropping again. Obertauern is a very good suggestion. Schladming is not very high but is another posibiliity it's even closer to Romania.

Nassfeld is another posibility right on the Austrian/Italian border.

If you would like to send me a PM with how much he's willing to spend and what sort of accomodation standard he is looking for (or post it here) I can make a few enquires in German.

We stayed in Zell am See at 80 Euro per room B&B for two last Christmas. With a car Kaprun is only a few miles away. Many pensions in Autria are in this price bracket and it can't get much cheaper, as it cost us about 65 Euro per day +final cleaning for in a self catering place in Ellmau, again for two of us. It should be a bit lower now the season has peaked.

French is cheaper. For 55 Euro B&B per day fortwo of us staying at Boug St. Maurice in Feb/Mar.

Hintertux is probably the most snow sure in Austria, according to the Internet.

Accoriding to me (who lived in Southern Germany for a few years) I'd add the Stubai and Pitztal for out of season and St Anton/Lech for in season. There's more but that's where I used to hang out.

Thanks everyone, I passed the info and my friend will be looking things up.

DB, that's a very kind offer - if he gets stuck, you may get a PM (when living in Romania and travelling to Austria for skiing, I used to be our group's German language expert with my 100-word vocabulary, which includes amongst others the ever-so-useful "landwirtschaftliche ProduktionsGenossenschaft"...)

Cedric,

The German language (with all it's big words) was only invented to give central Europeans a good reason to spit at each other Wink
