Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What do Austrians wear under their kilts?

I can believe this absolutely and the Dutch invented golf.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We've known for centuries that salt is an excellent preservative, so the fact that it has preserved a kilt should come as no surprise.

But no canny Scot would leave his kilt behind for a foreign preservationist to play with.

The article claims Austria invented tartan - not the kilt itself. Perhaps that honour belongs to the Swiss and also accounts for yodelling ? Without trews any male's voice would definitely go up an octave or two in winter.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I'm not so sure, last night they said that the abysinians used to wear kilts only about 5,000 years ago

Point of Pedantry: If you're talking about the "Noah's Ark" programme on telly last night, I think it was the Sumerians, not the abysinians! Smile
On the Austrian kilt theme, I have seen posters in resort for an Austrian "Tirolean Evening" where one of the musicians allegedly plays Scottish Bagpipes (or DudelSack in German - aren't some German words great?)
Now if someone were to ski wearing a kilt whilst playing the bagpipes that would be something worth seeing Exclamation

Do you know what Alastair I have a horrid reccolection of that actually having occured at a DHO event, it's the sort of crazy thing that fellow members have been persuaded to do in the past, I know that not too many years ago they did a race in period coatume ! And yes you are quite right on your point of Pedantry, I wasn't really concentrating on the programme at the time so don't be to harsh on me Embarassed

However, probably not worth hearing Confused - I've always found the Highland Bagpipes rather harsh sounding - I much prefer the sweeter tone of the (arm bellows driven) Northumbrian Pipes as played by the talented Geordie lass Kathryn Tickell.

It's nice to know that the DHO are maintaining the reputation of English eccentricity (incidentally I'm also a member - I joined during my first (and only) visit to Wengen just over 2 years ago, but I will be returning next season (already booked!)

D G, .... and hopefully the racing element will be behaving themselves, as 'usual', in ten days time in Méribel! Hmm, perhaps I should rephrase that.....
