Off-piste possibilities in Hochkönig area?

 Poster: A snowHead

So, February trip booked to the Hochkönig area, and I'm already getting excited. We're hoping to do a mix of piste and off-piste skiing, so I'm keen to hear from anyone who knows the area about the off-piste possibilities there. Any lift-served stuff, any accessable via a hike or brief skinning? Ta!

I will be in the area in early January and would also be interested in off piste possibilities, conditions permitting. I seem to remember that there is at least one itinerary towards the far end of the area.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I did a season in Hinterthal a few years ago - there is a decent amount of off-piste accessible from the lifts, but most of it is not that obvious and pretty much all of it involves trees (I always enjoyed the extra motivation to make the turn!). There's a fun route (at least there was) Gabuhel that takes you down to Hintermoos, but I think there's a new run / lift been put in now so not sure how this will have changed. There's also some stuff you can do through the trees from Gabuhel down to Dieten.

I also remember some stuff of the back of Wastlhöhe bringing you back in Dienten.

If you're staying close enough then there's some great stuff around Aberg-Langeck all accessed from the top lift, there used to be a nice cornice to drop off if you followed the ridge to the right at the top of the top lift, which brought you back into the resort. I seem to remember it being avalanche prone here though so take care. If you're messing around here also beware of the huge cliff (you really can't miss it ) below the top lift, it seems an obvious point but a couple of guys died trying to ski it the year I was there.
