Prince William, involved in a flight scare yesterday when a pilot twice aborted a landing in New Zealand, took advantage of the bad weather that caused the problem ... by heading for the snow on Mount Hutt.
Action photo and story from The Sun.
No criticism of the ski technique please - it's by Royal Appointment (or rather his instruction was by Royal Appointment!).

David Goldsmith, I'm still furious with the Royal family that they took Swiss ski teachers. They should have set an example and employed a British one for them all. Most of them ski apallingly (see all the photo evidence), so they couldn't have done worse.
Buy British? Back Britain? Cool Britannia? Not if you're a Royal!

And his Father married Jabba.
Coincidence?

He was involved in a "flight scare" and then decided to tackle the road up to Mt Hutt? Frying pans and fires spring to mind...

Martin, yes that was exactly my thought! It's such a frightening road, there don't seem to be any photographers brave enough to capture it (tried to find something, in vain).
The one and only time I've been up there, we were dodging rocks on the surface, and the un-barriered edge was ... err... not for the tipsy, drowsy, or distracted.

I imagine he probably had a well trained driver to take him up there, perhaps William closed his eyes ?

You certainly wouldn't want the driver to close his eyes, even for a second!

Speaking of scary drives I think it's the Grimsel Pass thats pretty scarry, going along a very narrow road with just little stone bollards stopping you plumeting hundreds of feet off a shear cliff into a very deep lake held behind a dam, I went along it in a post coach which was pretty bad but a friend tells me its even worse doing it in thick cloud as you only see the road marking about 10M in front of the vehicle but you still know about the drop

easiski, they probably expect Swiss ski-teachers to be more discreet than British ones!
(I'm not casting aspersions myself)

Interesting theory! Prince Charles and Sons certainly show basic weaknesses in technique - they look as if the instructors just tag along, perhaps feeling undue deference.
Any serious instructor would take them apart.
Can't speak for their polo technique.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Interesting thought! I undestand that HRH PC does not take personal criticism particularly well!

David Goldsmith, I agree absolutely. PC's a pretty good rider, but I've only seen Wills once on TV - he looked the part though, but of course it helps to be able to buy the best ponies!!

NZ doesn't seem to be interested - couldn't find a thing about him skiing up Mt Hutt.
My Nana (bless, she was worried I was bombed yesterday, she doesn't quite appreciate the distance between Soton & NW1), says that Wils keeps being asked whether he still has his buzzy bee (it's an NZ thing. It even makes it into the main papers over there .... )

easiski,
I always thought they made a pig's ear of their skiing in the 'meet the press' photos that they have to do every year..
Mind you, I saw Fergie ski past us......with 6 hulking great bodyguards...at Megeve for the
British Armed Forces Champ's...She looked pretty good altho' the pale blue one-peice and the red hair was a bit of a shocker..!!

Maybe they should take some ski lessons from Auntie Fergie then - that would be a laugh!

Here's a description of the skiing and new lifts Prince William would have enjoyed on Mount Hutt, from today's edition of stuff.co.nz.
