snowbunny,
Agree, the B2's just don't seem to have much conviction for me, they just do things ok.

The B2W's were slammed by our SH reviewers at the EOSB though

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

This is blasphemy! My B2s are very close to me, and I won't hear a word said against them.

I've only been on rentals for both XX's and B2's but the XX's were a top pick in the shop for me and I sought them out.
I am not so keen to use B2's and I note the comparison. I have used quite a few pairs of both and the tune might be an issue.
All I am saying is that the B2's I have tried have lacked conviction...!!
Now the XL's straight off the rack were a totally different kettle of fish but I will not start that rant. But you will not be bothered with Slush with them, nor ice for that matter and plenty else besides...!!

I have to admit, I do find my B2s less than perfect on ice unless the edges are razor sharp.

Kramer, do you have any other main skis you use regularly?

slikedges, I'm a one set of skis type of guy. These are the first ever set of skis that I've owned, bought this year after twenty five years of skiing. If I was going to have more than one set of skis, then B2s wouldn't be one of them. I think that I would like something a little stiffer for on piste, and something a little wider for off piste, but as an allround compromise I find the B2s to be pretty good.

JT, I agree - I found the B2s do everything OK, but give very little "feel" back, and don't do anything really well. However I can see why they're so popular as an all around, undemanding ski.

easiski, how do you mean that they don't give "feel" back? What is "feel"?

Kramer, I'm not sure about feel, but I would say that B2's for me gave little feedback. Specifically I am used to a ski that transmits the state of play underfoot. B2's felt rather like clogs

I now think skis are quite personal things. Some people love Salomons. I don't seem to feel them to be stiff enough. I know a BASI 1 who loves them. I thought the Volkl 724EXP didn't turn well for me. Someone here thought they turned too easily. I think the Volkl 5* are ace. A BASI 3 said to me they were too stiff for him. I enjoyed a Dynastar slalom ski, but found Nordicas too stiff, when others enjoyed them. Whilst I still believe in reviews, I think whether you get on with them enough to really like them seems to be at least in part personal, so the best thing is to learn what you like, then find them, then ski them.

You know it makes sense.

Kramer,
Snowbuuny probably describes it better for me, I talk about conviction, Easiski says feel. It is probably repsonsiveness of the ski. Just like some people don't like the comfort zone of Salomon and describe them as non-descript or whatever.
I would suggest you try the XL as you have skied a long time. I can't see that the forgiving nature of the B2 would be 'aggressive enough'
or would give enough back. The XL is stiffer and demands a bit more effort but that is rewarded with performance across the range.
The reviews say it is demanding but it woudn't be so to someone who has skied as much as you.
If a ski is forgiving then I feel that trait demands a compromise somewhere else in the ski.
I am not saying the B2 is a bad ski and I apologise for the incessant rave about the XL but you WILL like it, I am sure!!

JT, I've not got a choice about what I ski on for a couple of years now. The B2s are bought, and barring an accident or a lottery win I shall have to ski on them for the next 4 or 5 years.

What really surprises me is how the word "Whistler" is not mentioned in this thread about slush!
If you skied down to the red chair for pretty much most of the season, you'll know what I'm talking about. It was so wet, the slush would be full of stones from the ground below. It required a completely different method of skiing too or it would spin you around when you were least expecting it.
I'm sure Atomic Sugar Daddies would have sailed over the top like surf boards, but have any of you tried turning on the things? Perhaps I'm not good enough at skiing on anything except on-piste carving skis though.
