Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

TR: Dent du Pra North Couloir

Poster: A snowHead
With record temperatures hitting France - 35c in the valleys some snow action seemed like a good idea to freshen up. Options were limited as it is mother's day in France and I'd promised to be back for 12 noon. The North couloir of the Dent du Pra - 50 meters of 40degree slope at its steepest - looked like a good option. Only 20 minutes walk from the car and 1000 meters of vertical. Luc and I left Brignoud at 5h20 with the sky just turning a dirty orange as the first light tried to break through the thick smog hanging over much of the Alps at the moment.

Are you thinking what we were thinking?

Climbing to the Dent - the nevé turned icy and the slope steepened

Chamois enjoying the spring weather

Two lucs engage in the descent

Lower down the hard nevé turns to soup

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

A good nickname for those skis might be 'soup spoons' then!

Nice pics, davidof - especially impressive blue sky on pic 3. The smog in the Alps that you refer to is an ongoing disgrace - I noticed this in the valley of Turin a couple of years ago. Maybe good that motor pollution does leave some visual trace though, rather than being clear.

Weren't you suppposed to be voting in some referendum thingy today? wink

Jealousy is a terrible thing, but I have to admit to it here. One day, all of us will be able to enjoy such good fortune. Until then we shall have to live vicariously through such stories as yours.

So , on balance, thank you for sharing.

You lucky, lucky man

Luke just sent me this shot in the North Couloir - you had to ski carefully as there were quite a few rocks sticking just proud of the snow - think shark's fins or ice-bergs!
