Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I drove back from Val d'Isere last Sunday, just after the big storm. The car in front was a French BMW X5, on summer tyres. The driver had no chains, or no intention of fitting them. As we rounded a hairpin the driver came to a halt from the 5mph he had been doing for about a mile. I couldn't over take as the other side of the road was full of stationary coaches, all fitting snow chains or waiting for others ahead to finish doing so. I pipped my hooter, for him to move off.

As he moved off, he instantly re-applied his brakes and then proceeded to slide all the way down the hill, bouncing off the coaches on the left and the armco barrier on the right.

We followed him down, my little Skoda Fabia gripping perfectly on its winter tyres, until it was safe to overtake the 2 tonne missile that was in front.

Saving a couple of quid by hiring French side, with no winter tyres, is simply not an option for me.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

BMW X5 - well known as the most dangerous car on an alpine road. Nice wide low profile tyres and lots of power but all will be OK as it's 4x4!

We've done French side so many times now I'm not sure when we hire from the Swiss side that we'll remember to follow signs for the airport after ignoring them for years! And if I can make the French sector, in the dark at rush hour in a massive Opel Insignia then anyone can.
