Author Research suggests helmets do reduce chance of head injury
Poster: A snowHead
A new analysis of twelve studies has concluded that wearing a helmet reduces the risk of head injuries in skiers and snowboarders by about 35 per cent. It also found that there was no basis to the concern that children wearing a helmet might be more vulnerable to hurting their necks....The analysis was published in Monday's edition of the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

Certainly prevented an injury when my son was showing off and hit my helmet with his pole.

Why? Because you don't like the conclusions? Where's your evidence?

Scientists have also discovered in case control studies that people in the mountains with skis on their feet suffer more head injuries than people with hiking boots on their feet.

Does this mean we should ban skiing altogether?

bum, yes, ban it, you can't be too careful. In fact ban moving around full stop.

Recently I heard from a friend of mine who has been skiing for 30 years plus without major incident. A few months ago he tripped getting onto an undeground train and cut his leg quite badly. Got fixed up in hospital but caught a super bug and has so far spent nearly two weeks on a ward. He'd have been safer tree skiing naked.

Helmets should be compulsory for fathers in delivery suites. We were waiting outside one this morning, knowing daughter was in theatre, so very anxious. A trolley appeared and on it was the prone body of son in law, being taken down to A & E. A high forceps delivery had proved too much for him, poor lamb. He was back an hour later with big gash in scalp glued, and a skull bandage on - so I got presented with the leaflet on care of head injuries. Now if he'd been wearing his helmet (which was in the back of our car outside the hospital at the time, as we bought it back from France for him..... all would have been well.

Mother and baby are doing fine. The head injury case is enjoying a night's sleep. wink

Why are we so stupid? Helmets are important.
you don't need some silly-ass to tell you they reduce injuries.
If you don't want to wear one don't - more fool you.
Recently I've heard/had a couple of friends who had bad accidents skiing - one friend of a friend died.
We feel we're invinicible and part of being a good skier is being confident to tackle challenging situations - without a helmet this is craaazzzy.

Live long and love life - wear a helmet or live with the bugs. Razz

No answer. I suspect because it wasn't a head injury.
