Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Dog-powered skiing - is your dog up to it?

I'm not sure how much practical benefit Snowheads can derive from this article, but it's worth a read. It's about the delights of skiing with your dog, more specifically getting Fido to substitute for poling (such hard work) while you glide along admiring the scenery.

It's a traditional art called 'ski-joring' - the use of dogs, horses or anything else on the pull.

A lift pass in this instance would comprise a nice juicy bone, a bag of oats, or maybe a nice romantic meal if you're using an attractive human slave on the pull. Don't feel bad about it - people have traditionally ascended mountains in sedan chairs.

All details of ski-joring are here, in the Idaho Statesman. Is your dog up to it?

The French ski-joering association and French Championships are based in Les Arcs as it happens. Great fun - usually horses rather than dogs. An all-year-round sport too, after the winter season grass skis (wheeled or caterpillar treads) are used. There's a good video sequence at:

Anyone know where I can get one of those heavy duty harness things to fit a yorkshire terrier? How do you get the dog on the ski lift / T-bar and is there a special technique for moguls? Could be fun through the trees, especially when Bruno stops for a quick sniff and hind leg raise. Laughing

Or if Bruno catches sight of a lady dog that decides to do a runner....

I don't think my Westie would thank me for this one - he may be built for snow, but certainly not for speed!!!
