Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Not sure if this is the right place; but does anyone know of a resort that will be open for skiing from April 2nd for two weeks skiing. Also something in regard to ice-skating for my mates girlfriend?

PG compiled this fine list of opening and closing dates for french resorts:

We were in Val Thorens week commencing 10th April last year and conditions were very good - only a touch of slush on south facing slopes in the later afternoon. No ice skating as far as I know though.

I would recommend the 3 valleys and for late skiing in particlaur Val Thorens as Ian says. Meribel has an ice rink and as it is in centre of 3 valleys you could ski VT or Courchevel - the latter usually has good snow into April. In fact will be there myself for a long weekend and even looking at doing last weekend in April in VT - snow permitting

SteveG, Plagne Bellecote has an outdoor skating rink and also a swimming pool. Pool only opens late afternoon but gets earlier as the season draws to its end. Or stay in Belle Plagne - she could take the bubble down to Bellecote or even walk down the road. You should be OK for reasonable conditions even that late but the base still hasn't been established in many of the higher French resorts. Be prepared to get on the first lifts, ski on hard stuff for a couple of hours until it softens in the sun, maybe skip lunch and pack it in early afternoon when it gets too slushy for comfort.

Thanks for that. How common is it for a place to extend their ski season beyond the original closing date, assuming that the snow base is still good etc?

SteveG, I haven't heard of it happening. We talked about this last year, when late season snow conditions were brilliant in many places. One suggestion was that the seasonnaires all need a break in May before they take up their summer jobs on the coast. Also that the numbers likely to use the lifts were so low as to make running them uneconomic.

SteveG, a good resort for April 1st would be Aviemore 1850 and its unlimited powder bowls. I wouldn't go there on April 2nd, though.
