Just had a look at snowguess and they think big snow is going to useful places this weekend. A look at the BBC map confirms a most promising situation.
What a great season!

One really frustrating thing is that they never let you know what altitude their forecast is for. It does make such a difference.
I think -5 is the perfect skiing temperature.

Chris Bish, You can search snowforecast by resort, and they give a breakdown of freezing levels and predicted precipitation (rain or snow depending on freezing level obviously...) at the low, mid and high levels of the resort.
its why a lot of people seem to dislike snowforecast I think. because there's so much info given, all computer model driven, that there's massive scope for inaccuarcy for many reasons. Local micro climate for example.
"snowforecast promised me 10cm of snow at 1450m on the 6th and it didn't, blah, blah, blah."
Its good for showing trends though, and IMHO its been pretty accurate this winter, certainly for the 3 day forecast. the 6 day tends to be a bit fanciful though.

Chris Bish, for France www.meteo.fr also has resort by resort forecasts (in English as well as French). Up to 4 days... As MarkP says though it can be spot on, can be wildly out - not so much with regard to temperatures which are pretty accurate... but precipitation, with its big local variations.

markP, well done - good thinking. I thought I might just be able to turn up and blag it at the airport. The planes seed the clouds if you pay the supplement, don't they??

Got a text from my parents (who are currently in Villars, Switzerland) saying that it was snowing heavily this morning and that everything was closed. Stuff may have opened later on this morning.

Just back from La Rosiere, started snowing on Thurs evening, still snowing this morning down to about 1300 meters. Prediction was for 40 cms by Monday, although I'd say there's more. Too warm to bash it, about 6-7 degrees but cold front forecast for Tues. If any one is going skiing this week it should be great throughout the Haute Tarentaise.

David@traxvax, Shows the difference you can get in local conditions, just down the road in Bourg SM it was snowing all morning down to 800m, and there was plenty of light powder at Les Arcs, no probs for the piste bashers. Not that I was there being laid up with flu, keyboard within easy reach, but I am 'reliably informed' by offspring that conditions were perfect...
Looking good this week as you say, snow showers forecast on and off for the next few days, staying cold...
