Poster: A snowHead

Alas the glorious Gatwick meet is not to be- im flying out on the 7th! bloomin sunday flights to Barcelona- followed by the most horrific transfer- they claim 3.5 hrs (yeah maybe if we were in a ferrari) so it'll be 4-5 hrs I reckon. Hence the need to buy vodka at duty free on the way out- journey from hell passes quicker when you're sat at the back swigging like a tramp and doing coach karaoke (oh the joys of First Choice/last resort)

Me, Me!! Well, sort of, I'll be teaching kids at a dry slope. Crossing fingers for a miracle snow fall. Still, it gets me away from this $%&&*! computer.

So we're off to the slopes (Today I'm off to Coumayeur/Chamonix to do the Valle Blanche.) But what is the weather going to be like?
http://www.meteo.fr/e_index.html has a great big black cloud pouring rain (hopefully snow up the mountain) on Chamonix the whole weekend.
Normally reliable http://www.snow-forecast.com/ is stuck on Tuesday and only gives info for Friday morning: clouds (with a rather depressing illustration)
http://www.skiclub.co.uk/skiclub/weather/forecast.asp (which is taken from snowforecast) has cloud and light snow.
www.chamonix-weather.com says fleeting sunny spells with snow showers.
I like the Chamonix site version best: let's hope it's not as gloomy as meteo-france suggests.

If I lived in Switzerland, I'm sure I'd be the same. Somehow the Hertfordshire Alps don't quite match the conditions there. I blame Global Warming.

skanky, I remember my childhood in Berhamsted (just on the edge of the Chilterns) and there were some cracking days of snow at wintertime. Shame I wasn't into skiing then, because it would have been very possible!

We were able to build a snowman on Sunday morning on the northen edge of Hertford (where I live). There's a reasonable (though short) hill nearby and if we get a prolonged fall next year, I might take the skis up. I think a sledge would be better though.
Was in Rutland when I was a kid, loads of snow then - again all sledging (or bin bagging) as didn't ahve skis.

Is Berhamsted anywhere near Berkhamsted? If so, that's where I was renting a house when I first moved over to England 2 years ago. I now live about 10 miles from there, and have a great view of Ivinghoe Beacon from my house.
I've already picked out my line down the hill, I just need to wait for there to be enough snow on it.

I'll be in Malvern this weekend. I wish there woukld be a decent fall there. Coming down off the Beacon and down Happy valley would be a lovely run.

Wear The Fox Hat, Indeed - it's the same place, just without the typo! Used to live in Fieldway (Hall Park area) and there would be some great runs down there!
Remember the beacon well from my school trips! What a small world...

skanky, Mrs H is from Malvern - been there many times - you're right, the Malvern Hills could be an excellent ski resort if only there were some snow!

There's even two pubs at the bottom of HV
Parents moved to the Link several years ago. I always try to get up the top whenever I go there.
