Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The huge dump from last week is now starting to consolidate but there is still a very high avalanche risk over a lot of the off piste areas. There was another 5-6inches on overnight Monday and into Tuesday afternoon. This was relatively fluffy but it is sitting on top of well skied and hard pack and was sliding off in many areas. Although I guess that it will get bashed at the end of the day. It also got a lot warmer on Tuesday and it was fantastic powder on the piste yesterday (Tuesday) if you could see where you were (ski by feel - very good for technique).

Charles Bozon Couloir was better than the day before as the lumps were a bit softer. Ther are wet snow slides coking in from the side in soem areas so don't hang about. Have been problems with the top Montet lift closing becasue of high winds but that should be better now.

Pas de Chevre was done by one party last Friday but they came down the wrong way - no further news about conditions there, except that one veteran says that its still very icy cos of the high winds that accompanied the original dump, and the Vallee Blanche is still not skiable.

We did the Amethyst Bowl which was great and will be better now. Point de Vue from the top Montet lift was closed but we did it anyway and it was a bit slabby and crusty at the top but better lower down.

Flegere between piste and around piste is less well skied than the other areas as the snow is very crusty due to the wind that was blowing when the big dump came. Brevant and La Tour are both well skied everywhere.

Sorry forgot to mention - we stayed at L'Alpenrose hostel 500m past the hospital. Friendly staff, clean and cheap at 16E per person per night B&b in 4 bed room, sheets and dinner extra, ski storage in secure locker room, 30min interval bus from outside to town and just a few mins walk from the Jeckyll. Other buses crap, we gave up and used the car.

hi there,

I'm heading out to Cham for a few days next week (wed thru Sat), pretty much a ski anywhere person, got any tips on where to head for? I know about Les Houches if the vis is bad. It's also half term in some places, so do you know which areas are the busiest?

Also considering hiring a guide for a day.

cheers,

greg
