Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

So here I am, an newbie of only a few days, and I am already up to 18 posts, most of which seem to be long rants about my pet subject of safety in the mountains. If any regulars on here have thought I have come on a bit strong .....SORRY!! My only excuse is that this is the first time I have really found a suitable outlet for my rants and seem to want to get them all out in one go Very Happy

So why am I behaving like this. Well, I guess its because this place is a great forum where I have been made welcome. I have been reading many of the old posts and can see what a really enthusiastic and friendly group hang out here. So, to all of you and to the people who run the forum, thanks snowHead

Forget about already! Laughing It gets pretty hairy sometimes round here but thats what makes it good. The e-arguments always stay just below boiling point and its never reached the car park with members here yet! rolling eyes

It's actually very funny watching members go at it when your not involved in the dispute. One tip to remember is wit is the most formidable weapon here. Enjoy.

SimonN, personally I would say that you haven't done anything that you should apologise for. In fact to the contrary. Your story about the guy you knew who was in the avalanche on the transceivers/piste thread was one of the most moving I've read here.

Controlled emotion (which yours is) is great to read, I'm all for us being passionate about the things we care about, whatever it is.

Thanks for the contributions that you've made so far. A great read. snowHead

One word of advice. David Goldsmith is the revered elder statesman of this website, so when you lay into him about being "naive" and "totally out of touch", it's equivalent to publicly criticising the Queen Mother!
