Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Boot Repairs

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Confused Is there any chance of repairing the heel hold-down control on a rear-entry Dynafit 'ETS' boot? The pair I have are about 12 years old but still comfortable and good to use. The heel hold-down 'snaplock' control lever has fractured on one boot. It's held to the shell via a hinge with 2 rivets and a small machine screw. Does anyone know if this make is still represented in UK -- they now seem to specialise in ski-touring boots. thanks, Richard

The little knobby red thing shown on the heel of the right boot? Whew, you'll need some luck with that. Ebay auction from SLC, UT here.

drachir, if it's just the end of the lever that has snapped off where it is attached to the rest of the mechanism by the fixings you describe then a small engineering company could probably make you something to replace it fairly cheaply, if the mechanism itself is damaged I think you will need new boots as I doubt anyone will have spares after 12 years

Hi. comprex! Thanks for the foto. Yes these are the boots but mine are black with a script on the side which appears to read 'Edition'. What's broken is the hold-down lever which sticks out above the 'knobbly red thing' in the foto -- it's fractured about one quarter way out from the hinge. Where did you get the foto Shocked Thanks, DG Orf, I'll try an engineering shop I know and I have ideas about how to mend it -- using auto quality epoxy resin and a couple of small pins to reinforce the joint (just what my dentist has done to one of my teeth!), but I did wonder if any spare parts are available. Unlikely I know after 12 years. Great help, thanks Very Happy

drachir, I was actually trying to see whether someone with, say, Raichle experience from years back would jump in here and say "Oh, that looks just like the XYZ model we used to sell, let me see if we still have a few in the back room, maybe we can salvage some parts". Might be more expeditious than custom fabrication.

drachir, Have you any ski hire shops in your area? they would be the only places I could imagine you might be able to salvage a lever from a similar boot. But it would be a long shot, I think you will have to go through the "new boot trauma" sorry.
