Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

If you think about what he's saying, he might just be trying to make a socio-snowsport observation by drawing an analogy to gender and sexual preference.

Us "sliders" (broadly) fall into two groups - skiers and snowboarders. This is just like the division of gender: men and women. It is generally true that skiers tend to prefer to share the mountain with other skiers and socialise with other skiers. In fact, ask many a skier whether they'd prefer the company of another skier or a snowboarder, and a large number would respond "skier". Taking this across to the gender analogy, we would be describing men who prefer the exclusive company of other men, even at the expense of the company of a woman. To some, this is a (but not the) definition of homosexual.

So, by saying "skiing is gay", he is simply likening the social interactions and natural groupings of snowsport enthusiasts to that of homosexual humans. Alternatively, he might be observing that the operation of "interaction" within either social framework is closed with respect to the two sets defined by each framework.

Either that, or he's saying we're all a bunch of raving poofs.

masopa, your argument intrigues me, but here is it's fatal flaw:
Homosexual men are known for having good dress sense - getting clothes that co-ordinate, etc.
The ability to dress well is not something that skiers are known for, yet it is a trait claimed by boarders.

Now as you all know it's not like me to get involved in these'discussions' - but this one is so stupid that I have to advise jonpaul (does that sound like a gay name or what?) for his own good.

First I must say life is full of choices, you can be a skier, a boarder, a fruit-booter, a snowblader or a fireman/woman. Hetrosexual, homosexual, bisexual or buy-sexual (Hugh Grant). I have nothing against peoples preferences, and have nothing against homosexuals although I don't personally bat for the same side. It's a shame that some people have quite rightly made their own choice in life, but it's obviously the wrong choice (e.g. boarders & snowbladers).

Now skiing is sexy there's no doubt about it. Look at all the lasses in those tight ski pants. Skiing works the 'bottom' muscles (technical term) much more that say boarding and bums of the opposite sex are sexy.

Now lets have a look at boarding .......
Seen any boarders with sexy bums or a good pair of lungs? Me neither because the @rse of their pants is round the back of their knees and their clothing is so baggy. The only time boarders see each others bum is in the shower. In fact the only way to identify the sex of a fully clothed boarder is by the goatie on their chin. It is also a well know fact that boarders without girlfriends or rich boyfriends are normally homeless whereas skiers normaly have a bit of dosh (money). So whereas us skiers have sexy bums and a few reddies (money) to attract the opposite sex, the boarders have nowt. Futhermore, you just have to look at their "plastic soldier" type stance on the board. An ideal stance for playing hide the sausage in the trees don't you think?

I'm not saying boarders are gay but you the jury have seen the evidence and I'm sure will make your own mind up. Laughing Laughing Laughing Wink

But unwrapping the present is part of the fun....on the other hand, the goatee beard isn't always a reliable indication, and you could be in for an unpleasant surprise.... Best to check out a few other factors other than the apparel mentioned by DB....

Dilated pupils? Sweet-smelling haze around a group? A boarder/boarders.
On the streets between 2 am and 5.30am? A boarder - not gone to bed yet.
Out and about between 6.30 am and 11 am? Definitely not a boarder, they've bought their croissants and finally gone to bed.
Passed out and lying in a heap in the entrance to your apartment building as you set off for the day? You've guessed it - a boarder.

And the obvious ones, from a distance:

Movement on the piste? Probably not a boarder.
Lack of movement, grouped together in the middle of the piste, usually in a blind spot? Definitely a group of boarders.

Only kidding.... well, partly Exclamation I've been in Les 2 Alpes for the Mondial du Surf (first part of week) followed by the Mondial du Ski (second half) for the past few years, in October. Two different universes...

That would mean that he's saying boarders are lesbians. Shocked

Probably true and all that- But I class myself as a skier (obviously as a woman im more than capable of boarding too x) and I still class the above as a good days action NehNeh

Maybe its because im too young/stupid/scared/tired to do much more than the above?

Right... well I'm off to Livigno for 10 days in the morning.....

I'll be watching out for the G+T sipping, Pimms guzzling one piece suit wonders to see how not gay they are.... to do this I will have to sit mid way down the piest just under the brow of a hill, smokin an exotic roll up scratching my week old goatie and adjusting the height and baginess of my troosers.

To keep me entertained I will have my crayons and a copy last weeks sunday sport which I haven't managed to finish colouring in yet......

blummin bunch of bi planked namby pamby woofters.... with sticks

And if Boarding was Gay... then at least we would do it with style and flair Wink

My dictionary says gay means happy.
Therefore I reserve the right to remain confused by this thread, and maintain the view that boarders are a bunch of illiterate hooligans Shocked

(Before you lynch me - only joking, what I meant to say was that they make great mobile slalom posts..... little groups of them sat in different positions every time you come down the piste. Well, usually the same group, just 20yards further on.... Wink )

And I refer to them as mobile moguls. all you do is make a firm pole plant on the top of the mogul, and turn around it.

btw, how do you get blood off ski poles?
