Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Finally some worthy skiing this season - Cosmiques TR

Not a great start to the winter. pretty poor snow here in Cham and up until last week i had only managed three days of poor piste skiing. Dusan and I decided that even though we thought the exit from the Cosmiques would be a bit of a pain it was probably worth it for the adventure. So last week we headed up the Midi with plenty of ice axes and ice screws.

Getting into the Cosmiques was relatively easy. We had to climb over some rocks

to find a spot where we could put our skis on

which was about here.

All the skiing is on vid which I am sorting out at the minute and will post soon on this page

Down at the bottom we had to search for a way through the crevasses

which involved sliding into this hole

between the glacier and the cliff

which was too tight for any turns

then we had to ski into this slot

and abseil in a bit further

before we could climb out of this lot and ski home

The skiing in the couloir was amazing and the adventure was well worth the effort. We went back up and skied the Rond a few days later. TR to come.

philingle, nice one. Tres Chamonix!
We very rarely get anything like this on the site. I trust that we're OK for capacity - most photos are hyperlinked to external sites - but the computerHeads will know.

philingle,

Great pics,

Does the way out always involve the trek through the crevasses?
I've only seen this on Lambert's film (The Last Resort ) and it doesn't mention that at all.
Not looked too closely at it on a map although I'd love to do it some day..

JT - the way out is not normally so labourious, the crevassed section is usually covered by enough snow to ski past it fairly easily without the use of ropes, ice axes or crampons, just a modicum of sensibility.
