Looks lovely. Excitement levels are bulding now. Not long to wait - just over 2 weeks to 17th. Ski boots have been brought down from the loft and parading around the house in them will be underway probably later today.

I'll have a go at dancing in them. Photos are already on Facebook of me trying them on with my new hinged knee supports yesterday. Last year I acclimatised to them by playing golf on the Wii in them. This year it can be dancing instead. I'll have to be careful not to trip over one of the cats.

@J Rhiannon, I will be out there myself on the 17th with my new hinged knee support. I might have to ski with the beginners this year or spend a bit longer in the bar Ha Ha

@skime2, where are you staying? I will be in The Harfenwirt. I stay there as it has the shortest walk to the beginners' slope that is easiest to get onto with dodgy knees. The slopes in the village all have steps up to them at the bottom. It is also slightly longer than the others and has more interesting swales too. I still stick with beginners classes, but improve the technique every year. I try to miss the bit where you stamp uphill on the first day as that is hard for my knees. I try to start in a slightly higher class and get relegated after a day or so, but otherwise I just get the button lift while the true beginners are learning to stamp uphill.

@carolyn, Tried some dancing in them. I settled for something a bit like The Twist with a Red Indian theme.

@J Rhiannon, let's hope your dance worked. Did it make it rain in Swansea? Not rained in Cardiff so you need to do some more, I reckon.

@carolyn, how are conditions at moment, I haven't been to neiderau for a few years(single chair was still there) looking at some real cheap deals for Satoday so I am very tempted, how is the new link from Auffach to Alpbach?
The link to alpbach is very good, the red down is a good run so very easy to get into alpbach
You know it makes sense.
@joshua, go for it more snow forecast for the weekend, the link to Alpbach has the most snowmaking in the whole valley and is generally in the best condition, the run itself is a reasonable red run very much in keeping with the rest of Auffach.

@J Rhiannon, I am staying at the Tirolerhof in Oberau. I had a Meniscal tear in the right knee so had the op end of October and the specialist says with the hinged support I should be ok to ski.I am back in the gym to build the muscles up but must admit I am a bit dubious about the skiing.
@carolyn,@Chris_n, We have a beginner who has booked ski school with the travel agent and will look to enrol with the ski school in Oberau for convenience.Last year a biginner had to have three days lessons with two more people instead of the five days as there were no others enrolled for ski school that week.If the ski school can't accomodate this year can she enrol with yourselves at Neiderau?

Skime2 I am also there that week and i also have a question for the ski school I am booked on as a improver but think I am more a beginner as I have only had one week of skiing in oberau and a few times at the snow center

@skime2, looking at what you are saying you should either be able to get the travel agent to book with us if there is no suitable class at Oberau or get a refund from the agent and book direct with our school. Either way it should not be a problem.
@Beans, if you were to go with beginners you would spend the first day learning how to put skis on and stepping up the slope. When you are an 'improver' / intermediate you will be assessed at the start of the first day and put in a group suited to your ability. One week of skiing plus a few sessions at the snow centre puts you firmly in the intermediate camp, it is very frustrating for us when someone who can ski a little comes in to beginners class and proceeds to do everything 'wrong' and the whole of the rest of the group copy them because they look like the best in the group.

@Chris_n, Thanks for the reply. Ski school is already booked but I know that this will depend on numbers so I will ask the rep on the coach journey to resort what the options are.

@Chris_n, yes I enjoyed every minute of it some of the best tuition I have had, Tony Klinger I believe? How is the snow holding up?

@dobby, It was already raining in Swansea. That's why I was at home dancing in my ski boots instead of out on the golf course where I was expecting to be. I think the dancing actually made the rain stop, as it cleared up nicely.
If Wales is going to be in Niederau over the next few weeks we need to make sure there is plenty of Welsh Hwyl mixed with the Apres Ski.
@skime2, Ah, so we won't be in the same lessons if you are up in Oberau. A couple of years ago they found someone having lessons on the slopes down in the village in Niederau who had problems with his tendons around his knees and it worked out quite well when they brought him up to the Harfenwirt to join me. They could keep the 2 of us out of mischief together. Neither of us could snowplough and it made things safer for everyone else that way as well as giving us company learning to control our speed without snowploughing. I have severe arthritis in both knees, but the red school intructors have been brilliant at finding routes for me with minimum snowploughing while making sure I learn new stuff every year. This will be my 6th year, although the 1st one doesn't really count as I could not get boots to fit. I now have my own boots.
Maybe see you out and about for apres ski if you do make it into Niederau. My brother will be there too, but he will be in a much more advanced class.

@J Rhiannon, I wont be in ski school but if I ski it will probably be with the beginners on the blue runs a few times to see how I go on. We have been coming to Oberau now for about 15 years. We are usually in a big group but this year there will only be eight of us. I find it such a great area for group holidays of all abilities and with Alpbach now accessible only adds to the pleasure. Will definitely be in Niederau for Apres ski.

Ps, for those asking about the school - we were complete beginners last year and could not recommend the red school highly enough; Rudi had us completely addicted by the end of the week.

Niederau is as brilliant as ever, but we really could do with some more snow. It is definately colder this evening, and snow is forecast, so will try and get a photo to you tomorrow. I personally can't praise the red ski school enough - they really are all fantastic instructors; patient, knowledgable and know the mountains

I'm not in ski school this week, as have come out with friends who are only here for a long weekend. I may join for the last couple of days after they've gone home, as I know a couple of people in Martin's class.

It could do with a good dump here soon. Getting a bit dicy on some of the pistes with hard packed snow now turned to sheet ice and powder blown into the depressions. The ambulance service has been busy today and we've got two casualties already in the Sonnenschein.
