I know we have a way to go before the new season, but as today is Midsummer I am starting to think about it! Here in Niederau the gondola is open this evening and there are bonfires lit all over the mountains to celebrate the Summer Solstice. Naturally the pub (Andy's) will be open and there's live music and celebrations as the sun goes down, paths lit by flaming torches. We have to share the experience with the cows, who all seem keen to try and get in the gondola at midnight as we go home! Anyway, I'll be back in the Winter with proper snow reports! Carolyn

carolyn, all sounds wonderful - we are at a wedding celebration this evening that will go going on into the wee small hours, so I shall think of you at your midnight getting ahead of the cows into the gondola.

Thanks Rhiannon, and hope the wedding was just as good as our Midsummer do! It was a lovely warm Summer night and the bonfires were very big, and you could see them lit up all over the mountains. Good company and a few drinks and a good time was had by all.

Sounds lovely. We had captain's weekend at the golf club, so a few drinks were had with a dinner Saturday and a BBQ sunday - and a few rounds of golf too. Makes a great change to have such fantastic weather for midsummerr.

I've just returned from my first visit to Niederau in the summer, and it was absolutely lovely, possibly more picturesque than in winter. I also got to experience the Talfest, and an afternoon at Schroffen. Perfect. Can't wait for winter to come now and to go back and do some skiing. Enjoy the rest of your summer in the wild and beautiful Wilddschonau

blodyn, we visited once in the summer and like you found it really lovely.
My OH has been organising himself to take some of our very old video film and put onto DVD. Some of them date from about 1991 and show our children learning to ski, me going from one side of the hill to the other without going downhill very often, the chairlift before it was replaced with the gondola and our elder son interviewing the lifties and some of the skiers on the gondola on its first day. Real history this stuff is!!

Gosh, I wish I had known, Blodyn, that you were coming, we could have met up! We have had a rubbish Summer, weather wise, but Autumn has so far been gorgeous. People are now taking in their balcony flowers and talking about the coming Winter. Not long now, we have had one morning of frost as yet! Pamski, those videos would be so good to see

Not a very good summer in France either but we were very lucky as we were there till early July - before the rain started, and then early September after the rain had stopped.

Oh, who's that then ? So now we have the snow cannons ready in the car park and some already on the Lanerkopfl. We have been having such glorious weather lately, and have 48cm snow forecast for thursday! Here we go.......

Hi, we have snow, although as it has been so warm the roads are all fine. Snowline is above the village slopes so we have a two tone view at the moment! We expect fog today and sun after that, no news of more snow yet but much colder. Will keep you informed!

No snow yet to report, but snow machines are all in place, orange padding round the pole-type ones on the schusses and still a bit of snow lingering at the top. We've had sunny days and frosty nights and several locals have said we're in for a great Winter! How they know is anybody's guess, something to do with a particular flower in one case, but here's hoping anyway

I just had a look at the webcams on the wildschoenau.com website and there looks like there is quite a bit of snow this lunchtime looking both ways on the Markbachjoch.

Well it's a bit early to panic not much in the short term forecast but I'll keep looking and let you know. The Snow Crew have been at work with cannons and the snow we already have up on the tops of the mountains and I shall begin the snow dance any day now - promise!!
