Poster: A snowHead

So, in light of yesterdays news from Tignes, where can the vertiginous (is that a word???) go to ski?
Apart from, er, Tignes (!) and Val D - which resorts have significant ski areas served by funicular railway?
(a friend we were hoping to ski with next year finds herself somewhat alarmed by the thought of dangling! Mind you, she doesn't like tunnels much either...).

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Wengen, the train goes up as high as Jungfraujoch but you can ski from Eigergletscher still a few drag lifts in the area as well the same with Grindelwald, but Wengen is prettier, it's where the whole concept of not having to walk up the hill before skiing down started, when they managed to persuade the train company to opperate during the winter months

You could try the left hand side of the mountain at Sauze ducks, it wasn't open when we went but there looked to be some horrendously long drags!!

The Gornergrat railway in Zermatt provides 1400 vertical metres of skiing from one 45 minute ride, and you have a seat all the way if you play your cards right, plus the best ski lift view in the world.
People complain about that length of journey, but it's usually a very sociable ride with lots of nationalities and plenty of sightseers mingling with the skiers. You never have to get off to change lifts.
J2Dave, I think your friend would much prefer that experience to a tube tunnel. That said, Zermatt has an above-average number of cablecars!

D G Orf, will suggest Wengen as an option (now digging out your other posts ).
David Goldsmith, that sounds very civilised! The rest of us are ok dangling but I think 1400m vertical should be quite enough for her...
Thanks guys...

J2Dave, Of course there is a nice big cable car from the middle of Wengen as well But the train is quite nice, Murren also has a little bit of train Accesed skiing but the Majority of the Runs need you to go on the cable car first
Train from Wengen at 1274 M up to Kline Schidegg 2051 M takes 25 mins then a further 5-10 mins after changing ther to go up to Eigergletscher at 2320 M

FenlandSkier, I last skied the ski welt in the late eighties there were loads of T bars then In fact most of the lifts seemed to be surface lifts. Thats what I remember because the people I went with could ride T bars and kept coming off them half way up
