Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Italian Resorts - from Rome...

 Poster: A snowHead

I've got some friends in Rome, and they are thinking of driving to a ski resort to "try it out". They're keen to stay in Italy, and to keep the cost down.

Any suggestions?

Elizabeth, there are some ski resort near Rome, on the Appennini.
Namely the mounts "Terminillo" and "Gran Sasso", those are considered the Roman's home resorts.
A bit north of that between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna there's the "Abetone".
Smaller unknown areas are scattered around.
Then if they are willing to undergo a longer trek, Dolomites are reachable from Rome via the motorway, one has to reach Modena and from there to take the Modena-Brennero streak of the motorway...
Are your friends going to live in Rome for a while?
I'd advice them to buy the "SCI" special issue just out (yesterday) which contains a list of the italian resorts, region per region.
Small skiable area can be found in Calabria and Sicily (on the Etna Volcano) too. The above mentioned guide reports a place in Sardinia too, but I'm not soo sure it can be skied...especially this year...today it's 18 deg centigrade here!!!!

Matteo, what about the resorts in Le Marche around Sibilini? And isn't there a small resort in southern Tuscany called Amiata?

Matteo, Just been reading that Sunday was the hottest November day for 142 years in Rome! (27°C) Might be a long trip to the nearest ski resort in the not too distant future... Sad

mikehall58, Yes, Monte Amiata it's another one to keep in mind, there are so many not well known, or better, shunted, resorts, because peolple here think of those as "not cool"...

And PG, correct, it's being unseasonably warm and humid. Today the thermal "0"
at Madesimo was around 3000 mt..this means t6hat the littlesniow that has come...
is already melted!
I guess that I will not ski until december, this season...
