Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Boot buying in Chamonix

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I am going to get my 1st pair of boots when I go skiing for New Year in Cham.

Can anyone suggest a decent hand (foot!?) holding place to do the whole thing for me?

Footworks seems to get all the nominations, but has anyone been there recently, as I did see somewhere a report that the guy who made it so good has moved on.

Any general advice about boots would be good too!

Cheers

Oh no - is footworks the one near the bottom of the Midi cable-car? Cos thats where I bought my boots (ahem) years ago and they have been brilliant. I had promised myself a trip back there to buy some more too.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I bought some Lange (good for narrow feet) boots from them a few seasons ago. The boot guru you are referring to had left already then and I was served by one of his "students" (I will try to find his name in my files). He definitlly sold me the right boots though the custom cork footbed he made was poorly finished and needed further work the next season in Val d'isere where they did it free of charge when I mentioned Footworks!

Footworks gets extremely busy/chaotic later in the afternoon. I made the first appointment, after their siesta, for 4pm and the guy spent 3 hours with me. also got a zipfit liner instead of the stock liner.

there is a great skiboot thread over at Epic with Jeff Bergeon.
