Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Insurance - by the day?

Just stumbled on a problem with annual travel insurance (SCGB's) which includes 17 days ski cover. You are not permitted to upgrade it to unlimited ski cover.

Difference in price between the 'Club' and 'Super Club' would have been about £40 but they say no, apparently to stop people abusing the system and getting cheaper insurance then only upgrading when necessary.

Trouble is, I couldn't foresee having extra time available for skiing until now.

Primary/SCGB say I'll be covered for the trip but not all the skiing. Only 5 out of the 6 days skiing in Meribel will be covered.

What insurance can I get to cover just the odd days skiing? Is this what Carte Neige does?

For next year, consider a 31 day policy - mine is about £80 a year for worldwide cover include skiing

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Carre Neige/Carte Neige (goes by other names outside of the French Alps) will cover you for recovery to point of first treatment plus for some incidental medical costs plus it gives you third party cover (useful for snowboarders).

Assuming the SC will still cover your medical expenses, which may include an ambulance trip from resort to hospital, you will be ok for that day. Just go to the lift pass office and purchase an insurance on the day, you may need to show your lift pass.

I've had this problem before...found the cheapest way round it was to buy additional single weeks from really cheap companies.

For next year try Direct Travel their policy includes unlimited days for winter sports, one of the few around that does - and they're quite cheap only £99 for a couple.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

That's £16 cheaper than SCGB/Primary (assuming you are talking Europe only) but what is the off piste cover like?

Having looked at a few insurance T&C's most permit off piste only if guided by a qualified guide who carries public liability insurance and no avalanche warnings are in place. This is very restrictive.

Once again I can recommend Direct Travel....honestly I'm not a sales rep! Unlimited winter sports, unaccompanied off piste cover...you name it they cover it! I've never had to make a claim but I've heard that they even pay out when asked....

Carte neige is an annual mountain rescue policy.
Carre neige is the day by day one - but you might have a problem buying a 6day lift pass with only one days' insurance on it, no?.

Carre Neige is very cheap, in the resort I know best, La Rosiere, it adds 3 euros to the cost of a 6 day lift pass. Having it does ensure that you are taken off the mountain and get to the nearest hospital without hassle. Cheap at the price.

Try Insure and Go - they sell insurance by the day (I think)?

homphomp, That is £68 cheaper than SCGB for worldwide, I'll check them out next year

u brain, Even 6 days Carre Neige is only €15 but I can't translate the T&C and I'm concerned at lack of public liability cover - the only thing that could really bankrupt me.

Elizabeth B, Good price, £16.77 for a bare minimum ski cover and ditching baggage & stuff that should still be covered by SCGB. That's for 8 days UK to UK. I've met this before, UK insurance companies insist on you being in the UK for the start and finish of your cover otherwise it is void. Can't tell whether this covers off piste or not.

Thanks for all your help, and any more that comes along.
