Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Do any Snowheads ski here?

Call me naïve, but I was astonished to discover the existence of this little enclave of privilege.

Yellowstone Club has 7 chairlifts (8 more are planned) and 2000 acres - for reference, that's about the same size as Breckenridge - to share between 16 people on a typical day's skiing. It's a shame I don't have a net worth of $3m.

I was pretty jealous until I realised that there'll never be enough skiers there to form a mogul field. Serves them right for being so stinking rich!

Who needs a mogul when you're a mogul?

I'm surprised they admit to Dan Quayle being a member; it brings the tone down a little, having to ski with illiterates. (Was that a potatoe?)

Jonny Jones, I don't think being illiterate matters in the US if you've got the important stuff like money!

There is a more serious side to this. Mountains are not a limitless resource and - as several other recent threads have pointed out - only a finite amount of development is acceptable on environmental grounds. Yellowstone Club benefits a tiny number of people - membership will be capped at about 800 - but causes a similar level of environmental damage to major ski resorts that serve hundred of thousands of people across a season.

If Yellowstone Club is successful, other developers will surely mimic it. Resorts that appeal to the great unwashed will then face even greater hurdles should they wish to expand. The world is big enough for one Yellowstone Club, but could it cope with 15 or 20?

16 people? Sounds like some of the resorts I ski at. One day last season I was the only person skiing in the whole resort!
