Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Pre-season gear sales coming up

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
As usual, Ellis Brigham are staging pre-season clearance sales in Manchester (from today 9 Sept) and London (from Friday 17 Sept).

Details here.

I guess that other major and minor ski stores will be clearing the rails and shelves over the coming weeks, before the ski shows get rolling.

Are they likely to be worth travelling to? Do they have good stuff and cheap prices?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Go up to Bob Brigham and haggle. He needs a bit of humouring and loves the smell of money. Tell him he's a brilliant skier (he's a reasonably good skier, but he certainly isn't brilliant). His brother Ellis is a lovely old softy so he'll probably be in a generous mood too.

Basically, ignore the price tags. They are genuinely out to clear the stuff, and will be delighted to have your help with this. Dream that you're in the Istanbul bazaar.

Please don't say I sent you.

Sorry, I didn't answer your question, Elizabeth B! I've been to a couple of these affairs and the stuff is essentially the same as they sell (or rather didn't sell)in the shops. I believe they help importers clear stuff from their warehouses too, so you should find something.

The quality of these sales depends on how the trading went last spring. If it was dire (I don't know) then there will be lots of stuff, and lots of cheap prices. If not, then enjoy the delights of Manchester!

I was in their Castlefields store yesterday. They have loads of gear there, with skis not just from last season but two or three seasons before. The clothing was all 50% off for ski wear and there was an awful lot there. The proce of the skis was ok, but not a major bargain. Salomon Scream 8s were reduced from £400 to £320, but if you went for the limited supply of ex demos, the prices were much better.

They used to hold these sales in bristol and I picked up some bargain boots for £70. (Since being on this site I have realised how lucky I've been that the boots fit me well - because they certainly didn't have any bootfitters on hand - as usually recommended by folks on this site! rolling eyes )
Anyway it had lots of good stuff that time - jackets at half price and so on.

Went to the manchester sales today 0 kast day in manchester,m what they have wil be moved to London for Friday's sales. COncentrated mosyly on ski hardware : had a brief look at clothes, seemed to be plenty of nice jackets and lots of dainese troosas, big boxes ful of cheap goggles / hats / socks and gloves, ioncluding hestra (whish someone was asking about on ger forum). Few Salomon helmets, a single lonely Girio Nine9 in an XL (I'd have had it if it were medium)

---Apologies for the worse typing than usual, we couldn;t be bothered cooking so we went to the pub in Mellor on the way home as they have an ex-Rushoome chef in there, I can honestly say it's one of the tastiest curies I've ever eaten, and it went extremely well with a couple of pints pf Robinson' Unicorn Smile---

Anyway, Mrs NBT picked up some Head boots, very nice, but I was looking at skis. No scream hots for me, although they had some AK rockets. In fact, most of the skis seemed to be either really long, really short, or aimed at beginners / specialist m,arkets (like off-piste of park work) .

Couple of pairs of seth pistols @250, skis only. some Zag skis (165 + 185, IIRC). No superpsort 5s, but bags of other volkls. Plenty of Atomics, Some Dynastars. Line Mike Nick, in a 142. some K2 enemies. If you fancied something specific feel free to drop me a line and I'll see if I remember seeing it so you don't make and unnecessary trip

Cheers

NBT
