Poster: A snowHead

If you're looking for an exotic ski destination this summer, Tasmania - the big beautiful island off the south coast of Australia - is recording its best winter's start for nearly 40 years. Big rainstorms in June have been followed by big snowstorms on the island's mountains in the opening days of July. The place to head for is Ben Lomond.
This report from today's (well, actually it's tomorrow's!) Tasmania Examiner.
And this is a live snowcam on Ben Lomond.

Nice to know one resort has record snow. Here's a another webcam which is working at the time of posting (but remember huge time difference). The one in DG's post is a 'roving cam' which is not always 'live'

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Lots of snow has been falling in the state of Victoria, too. Here's a scene from Falls Creek, where there's a reported 1m base on much of the mountain already.

These ski.com.au so called 'live' webcams are up and down like yo yos. DG's 1st link and mine are now both showing the same poor boarder who's been stood in the snowstorm for some time. DG's latest link is current U/S. Pot luck, viewers.

The recent heavy snow on Tasmania's mountains has revived controversy over a project to build a cablecar from the capital Hobart to the summit of Mount Wellington. Its proponents argue the case for a new tourist attraction, with guaranteed access when people want to see the snow (which doesn't fall at lower altitudes on the island).
When it snows people pile into cars to use the narrow and precipitous access road, which causes chaos.

There were also concerns over the financial viability of the cable-car operation, which could have carried up to 300 people to the summit every hour. |
Shurely shome mishtake. Only 300 p.p.h. ? Pretty small cablecar.
