Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Obergurgl transfer to/from Innsbruck

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
On the scrounge for some tips for getting from Innsbruck to Obergurgl next month - and back again.

Looked at car hire (c.£250) and taxis (c.£200), but is there a trick I’ve missed, and/or a third way?

FWIW dates are 6th Dec - 11th Dec for 2 x adults and 1 x 4-yo.

Cheapest way is to take the public bus from outside the airport to Innsbruck Bahnhof, then take a train to Otztal and then another public bus to Obergurgl. It's not the quickest way to get there but is quite cheap. I think each leg takes about:

Airport - train station bus: 15 mins
Innsbruck - Otztal train: 20 - 40 min
Otztal - Obergurgl bus: 90 mins

There's also the Oztal Shuttle bus but this may be a bit pricey for 3 of you.

The numbers are right but take in consideration the waiting period between train and bus. Last year wee took the 10/11 AM bus to Otztal station (don't recall precisely the exact hour) and had to wait for almost 2 hours for the train. We regretted not booking a shuttle/renting a car.

@drporat, yes, of course there's the waiting time but the bus quite often arrives into Otztal just before the train departs. I've never had to wait two hours for a train and use the OBB app to check the train times.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@Kelskii, You are probably right and it might have been my bad luck. Maybe i arrived in between or there was some local issue/delay.
I just checked the website for a random day in December, and some slots are perfect.
We left Obergurl after breakfast in no hurry and we didn't have to wait long for the bus. But we definitely waited way over one hour for the train at Otztal, and that convinced me to rent a car this time

Thanks all - anyone able to recommend a reasonable cab firm for this route?

I am only aware of the shuttle van service that Kelskii referred to, it appears on Solden official website and this is what my hotel clerk recommended last year (when i declined and went for the public transportation for economy reason).
On Snowheads I have recently found this: https://www.findtransfers.com/airport-transfers.php?from=Innsbruck%2C+Austria&to=S%C3%B6lden%2C+Austria&fLat=47.2692124&fLng=11.404102400000056&tLat=46.9654937&tLng=11.007623200000012&home-search=true
