Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hitting the slopes for the first time in 10 years and was wondering what to expect cost-wise for food and drink on and off the mountain? Never skied in France before but have been to Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Canada...Thanks in advance!!

Welcome to snowHeads snowHead

up the mountain, it is cheaper on StG side than Megeve side, don't underestimate a sandwich & chocolate picnic only buying a drink up there. if the weather is nice there are some great spots to stop & just soak in the view.
in town work on 6-10 euro starter, 15-25 euro main & 6 euro desert, beer is 3 per half.

Stanford Skiing (based in Megeve, which is linked by lift to St Gervais) have reviewed a lot of the mountain restaurants in an excellent and very detailed guide, which includes prices for specific meals (for comparison between restaurants) and assignment of a letter depending on how expensive they are. You can download it here:

@surferrosa, I am fortunate to be able to ski in and around Chamonix for the season. The costs of eating out regularly are prohibitive. I do however splash out (in my dirt poor Northern kind of way) occasionally. This Never occurs in Megeve. Chuffing dear. St Gervais much more reasonable. Quite like the place under the Epaule lift.

Bear in mind that each of the ski areas has one or more Salle hors sac, a warm place where you can eat your packed lunch and often buy a hot drink (if for some unfathomable reason you have neglected to take your litre of tea with you).

Wow, thanks for all of your suggestions! I never considered taking a packed lunch to the slopes!! And the list of mountain restaurants is fab, there seem to be so many!

On the countdown already... 11 weeks and 2 days to go. Now bring on the snow!!
