Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

am planning on a slightly different timescale so need a different place to stay than our usual for an overnight stop on the way down at new year..... ideally need two rooms, one family for room for 4 and one double room for my mates..... secure parking as car will be loaded and a half decent restaurant would be good.... any ideas ? not to far from motorway if poss....

cheers

We stay here and should tick all your boxes. Half way between Troyes and Dijon, 1 min off motorway, secure parking in front of room (motel style) and decent restaurant. Family rooms sleep four and fine for an overnight stop - we pay around EUR 95 / night. Better than a budget as its at exactly the right sport for us.

+1 for le Val Moret. We've been using this for over a decade now. Big pluses are only 5 minutes from the Autoroute, secure parking right outside the room, indoor pool and great restaurant (and local Champagnes). What's not to like? We always try to get a balcony room even in the winter, as you can leave the door slightly ajar at night and still feel secure.

@ajc2260626, they definitely do them as stayed over three tones in summer. There are larger rooms in the new building a few hundred meters away with 2 double beds. The main hotel has smaller rooms with a double/queen and a sofa bed. Ask to stay in the new building.

@Ozboy, agree with Val Moret. Couldn’t be better placed for a stop over. Nice rooms and good food.

@ajc2260626, When we go back and forth we always stay at Auberge Cote Riviere, Is-sur-Tille. (Tel: 03 80 95 65 40) Its near Dijon and not far off the motorway. They have nice clean basic rooms and the restaurant is outstanding. Is-sur-Tille is a pretty place for a wander. We always use the room they have for people with dogs, as they travel with us. Importantly it has very secure parking which is locked at night. (You have go over a little bridge to the hotel)

Another Val Moret regular here.

Alternative to try: off the beaten track, so say 20 mins from the motoway, but a bit further on than Val Moret:

Stayed admittedly quite a few years ago for Boxing Day eve - absolutely delightful, and everything you would expect for a rural French community. Shared breakfast in the back of the village shop with the farmers...

Glad to see those recommendations as we like to try somewhere different. We have stayed in two Novotel around Dijon. The first one on the way back from the South. It was fine, does what it says on the tin but breakfast was limited - https://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-0418-novotel-dijon-route-des-grands-crus/index.shtml.

I'd highly recommend this one we did on the way down for skiing last Xmas - https://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-1177-novotel-beaune/index.shtml
Highlight was dinner and the fantastic wines by the glass. We normally stay in the Novotel at Tinquex near Reims and so have got a bit bored of the food over the years. This place was a revelation and I think we'll go for it again this year, but only at Xmas when we want to arrive early in resort.

Would agree with Val Morel.

At Dijon we've stayed here... http://www.valmyhotel.fr/fr/
5min from motorway. Secure parking in gated compound behinf. The steakhouse across the road was ok... but ran out of beer and there was only 8 of us!

For the serious foodies out there Google Tournus, another 100 or so km in the gastronomic heart of the Bourgone.

A myriad of amazing hotels and resturants some Michelin as well as other options that are just as good.

This is where we sometimes stay.

I must be the only one on here who has been seriously disappointed with Hotel Val Moret. We don't usually stop so far south, tending towards Chalons or Epernay, mainly due to living so much further North than most. On our only visit, we had surly reception staff , very mediocre food and a freezing cold room at the far end of the grounds across a car park an inch thick in black ice. I won't be rushing back. It then snowed overnight and we had a very very long journey to Calais behind snow ploughs which meant we missed our lunch in Calais by several hours, had to rearrange our Eurotunnel, and couldn't stock up with wine either.
