Cutting leki carbon poles

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I have some leki carbon poles, that have been given to me, they are trigger s, but are much too long for me at 130cm, I would like to use them but would need to cut them down by 10cm.

2 Issues

Never tried getting trigger s handles off, and cutting carbon? I have cut down alloy no problem, but not sure with carbon

Anyone with some knowledge?

@Zorrac, If you do manage to get the handles off, make sure you wear a very good face mask when cutting through the poles. You don’t want to breath in carbon saw dust.

I’ve cut carbon bike handle bars and seat posts. You really need to use a dedicated carbon cutting blade for the hack saw. If you are friends with anyone in a local bike shop they will have the equipment, and may cut them for a small fee.

I would contact Leki with regards to removing the grips.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

On poles I normally stick the handles in boiling water, they are probably just a press fit. Once they've been sat in there for 10 mins they should be easy enough to pull off with a tea towel.

For the carbon bit it is so narrow I'd just cut them with a metal hacksaw and wear a mask - the cut off end is going to be under the handle anyway, so doesn't need to be beautifully clean, sand off any sharp edges from the cut end.
