Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Easy Black Run - L2A

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Heading to L2A next week, kids are on at me to take them on their first black run. So, do you have a recommendation for one, or ones we should avoid? Something groomed and wide would be good. Thanks.

@4D6174, ...not Valentin then...steep, icy, pylons in the middle, gully to the left. Boiler-plate from top to bottom on occasion...

...perhaps La Fee?

Diable. Short, straightforward, ticks the 'I've done a black run' box.

Just to get clear (I pulled out the piste map still sitting on the table next to me, as I had a sneaking suspicion) - turns out I meant just the top section under the super diable lift. The full diable run to the bottom of the hill is quite long - and you're committed to seeing it through.

It doesn't answer your question, but basically I think you should be teaching them that 'black run' doesn't really mean anything.

A blue run is nothing until you've skied it top-to-bottom without error
A red run is nothing until you've skied it top-to-bottom without error
A black run is nothing until you've skied it top-to-bottom without error

Lots of people get off on challenging themselves to a black. A black doesn't have to be difficult, in its own right. What's difficult is skiing that black the way it's meant to be skied. Simply making it down alive doesn't prove anything.

@dp, Yep, agree with all that. They can do all of the above. Just want, if possible, for the first one to be at the easier end of the scale.

I skied Diable as my token black for the week in L2A a couple of years ago. It did not leave me traumatized (unlike a some natural red runs in Les Arcs / La Plagne this year Shocked ), actually I think it might have been quite pleasant Toofy Grin .

@4D6174, you might find clips of certain runs on youtube. That can sometimes be helpful.
