Can you help me out?
Last year I did Bulgaria (Borovets) really enjoyed it (and it was massively easy on the pocket)
I go again this week with my son for half term.
We ski and board (he’s pretty good, I’m fairly rubbish at both - but do enjoy)
So next half term I’m thinking of Italy.....because....
I can fly to Turin from Bristol (our closest airport - still almost 3 hours away) I can obviously drive down to Gatwick if it makes it a lot easier, but by the time I add on £80 per room plus the £70 fuel and to stay there over night before we fly, I just balance it out with the extra cost to fly from Bristol.
Reasonably short transfer (I get really sick on coaches)
If I go it alone and do not book package, there appears to be private direct transfers readily available (with a moody teen in tow, I can’t face swapping busses/trains and changing)
It appears to be good value for money
We’d like reasonable nightlife - few decent bars and restaurants
Plenty of big wide blues for me and some reds for him
* I can do Bulgaria again for that week for £500 each flight/transfer/accommodation - I realise that a ski holiday shouldn’t be based on price........however......if you’re NOT great at it I think you really do need to balance cost vs ability and expectations and be realistic (plus it’s a 2nd or 3rd holiday for us, so we need to be cost conscious)
So SnowHeads..........can you give me some advice?

Champoluc ticks the boxes. Accom might be the only tricky thing.

look at Bormio, not and easy transfer but most Italian resorts require a schlep, one fantastic hill and a lovely old town with inexpensive restaurants and bars.

I am going for a week in Sauze D'oulx late March although having never Skiied in Italy, from my non stop reading as i can't wait to go, it seems to tick the boxes for you. The transfer from Turin looks to be 90 mins however that would be quicker on a private transfer. Sauze is known for a good Apre and nightlife with a number of good bars and the 500Km+ of piste is meant to suit everyone!
For everything it came to about 700pp
Not sure when half term is but I will be sure to write a good (or bad ) review when I return.
Good Luck and hope you find a good deal wherever you go!

Thanks @Jhead91
Look forward to your review.
I have looked at Sauze and it does seem to be pretty high on the list for ticking the boxes.
Have a great time out there!

We did bormio last year with two teenagers, drive up from Milan is about 3 hours on good roads, beautiful drive past lake como. The town is very nice, good restaurants and bars at reasonable cost. Ski slopes whilst limited are good for cruising, good mountain restaurants again at reasonable cost. Liked it so much we are going again this year in Feb.

Thanks Macro,
Have a great time.
I’m wondering if I might get a trip in late October/early November for half term now.
Although booking.com and TripAdvisor don’t seem to show any available accommodation on those dates yet.
I know it’s snow dependant.
Have a lovely holiday. We are off to Bulgaria on Saturday

Have a great one yourself. I found some great apartments on holiday letting, chalet Alfonz was the name last year. Central to the town, beside the ski bus stop and the thermal spa

Sauze d’oulx (1 hour transfer) or Cervinia 1 1/2 hours for miles of motorways and sun!

Oh sorry @underanewname
Italy, somewhere high for end October early November.

May be worth a look at obertauern, in ski armade area, or there are other resorts nearby. You’d have to ask others about night life I’m afraid. Flight (jet2 from Birmingham to Salzburg) was 1 hour 40, transfer is about 90 mins. Good mix of red and blue (I’m a nervous intermediate and am coping, but rest of family are more confident and loving it). Expensive hotels but we are in an apartment so fair bit cheaper. High resort with loads of snow. Not sure about end of October/November though. May be a bit ambitious for Europe? I would do a last minute diy break at that time of year and see what’s around/where there’s snow. Would probably be a fair bit cheaper too.

You know it makes sense.

Yes, last minute is what I hope to do.
The half term is so late that short haul sunshine I don’t think will be possible, so early snow seems a better idea.

you will need to be looking at the glacier resorts at that time, Solden, Tignes, Stubai etc.

Yes, I thought that.
Historically some resorts seem to be good from early October, but obviously it just depends on snow. Think it will have to be a last minute thing though.

@Lou1, would have thought that the issue for Oct/Nov is not so much lack of snow as the lifts not being open....

Yes, I wondered that too.
There seems to be plenty of literature on early skiing in Europe and recommending certain resorts from mid October.
But I think it will be a case of plenty of research first.
