Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Top sheet damage

Hi. I am looking at a pair of secondhand skis for my son but the ones I have found have damage to the topsheet, along the edge, that appears to go through to the core, should I be worried?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Back in the day, I bought some Bomb Damaged skis in Belfast. All the scars were on the top sheet and I found no problem while skiing them, as the bases were untouched.

IMO. It is purely aesthetic (which might still annoy you), but shouldn't effect performance if the bases are fine.

@misternrb, if moisture has or does get in to the core these are a write off. I would avoid if there is any chance that has happened.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks for the replies. I don't mind scratches on the topsheet, they can be considered badges of honour, as it were. This seems to go down to the core though. It is an online sale so I can only go by the images and they are not being given away, asking for 190€!

That'd be a no from me, you'll get much better condition ski's 2H than that.

@misternrb, I can't see what the skis are but I wouldn't pay €190 for damage like that. It would probably be fine (just slap a bit of slow cure epoxy over the scrape to seal it) but you don't know if water has got in, like @zikomo, says, and the skis are about to delaminate terminally. Better options likely available, I think.

@misternrb, how old is your kid and what length are you looking for?

I think that’s a BC Junior ski.

You could get a brand new Rustler Junior with a Marker Free Ten for 279 euros from Sport Conrad. There are other Junior options too

They are Black Crows Magnis with demo bindings which I prefer when buying for my son as I don't have to worry about boot size changing over a couple of seasons.
He can still ski on his older skis (even if they are a little short on him now and I will carry on looking.

Offer 120 dobs on the basis of the top sheets and see if they bite.

Nail varnish is good for touching up damage like that and you should be able to find a good colour match.

I wouldn't worry about that level of damage for a second, but €190 feels a bit steep.
