Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Moguls

Watching the moguls competition from Calgary. They've covered the course in something. I assume this is to give some extra definition to the slop/moguls as it seems to be flat light/the shady side of the mountain.

Anyway this is probably a numpty question... what do they cover the course in? It looks like they've had the christmas tree chipper spraying over the course.

I think they cover it in Christmas tree chippings. Its for definition

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It is tree chips to help give some definition to the bumps in flat light.

@Russeh, bumps are the essence of skiing. If you can’t ski bumps, you can’t really ski.

Next numpty question - how do the chips not interfere with their skiing?! Puzzled Does it not catch under the skis?

@under a new name, I cannot ski bumps v well, ergo I probably can't really ski. Laughing (Though my instructor said I was good in Pozza last week but there were hardly any bumps for the five hours I was with him)
I hate bumps but still keep trying with the odd mogul lesson; I'm usually at the bottom of the group in terms of progress. Confused

@Cinsha, can’t answer the question, maybe it’s because pine is pretty resinous? I have skied over it many times, and it doesn’t cause a problem.

I am not a very good skier, can't carve, for example, but i love challenging terrain and bumps and love to learn how to ski them properly! I practice every year.

@Cinsha, bumps are pretty specific. But once you get them...

The pine needles do not catch on the skis. They sink into the snow but allow competitors better definition in flat light. You need to be able to 'spot' the landing after doing the airs.
I am a moguls judge.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@mogulski, Ah, pine needles not tree chippings per se. Thanks for the answer. ..."spot the landing after doing the airs" - I just like to stay upright for a bit!
It is like poetry in motion when you watch an expert on them; I am in awe.
