Poster: A snowHead
|
We are heading to Mammoth at the end of this month and was thinking of buying lift passes when we arrive. I have been told that they can be bought a lot cheaper online and was wondering if anyone knows of any good trustworthy sites to buy them on and if this does in fact save enough to make it worthwhile? We are there for 7 days so looking for 2 x 6 days lift passes.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

You could look at liftopia, and American Ski Classics dependant on dates will depend how much you can save. You accommodation supplier might do discounted rates too. If you are driving in yourself local ski shops, supermarkets etc may also do discounted deals. Generally you'll get up to 20 % savings at the most.
Enjoy, they should be getting some more fresh snow this week and towards the end of next.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thank you very much for replying and thats some really good information. I will have a look at both the sites you have suggested and I will also give the hotel a call! I have been watching the weather forecast so I’m hoping it’s right as I absolutely love fresh powder, but even if we don’t get any new snow it is already looking good!

I've only been to Mammoth in summer and it's on the bucket list to hit Mammoth for skiing and Palm Springs for golf in the one trip.
A trip report when you return would be great...or a few tips at least. Thanks in advance.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

my experience with liftopia is that you have to buy it a least a week in advance to get the best discounts. maybe 2 weeks if possible.

Redwine, Probably correct, usually get them some months in advance - although we have got them a couple of weeks before. Their prices do vary, and are affected by local public holidays etc too.
Paid $93 for 2 days skiing for 2 people for this road trip

Thank you once again everyone’s input! Looking at the options the cheapest I am managing at the moment is via the mammoth ski site itself!
American classics did have a very good deal but only if you booked your holiday with them! Unfortunately we didn’t! Six days with American classics comes out at £200, via the Mammoth website it was nearer £390.
When we return I will do a trip report to hopefully give some detail and ideas for others who are looking to go here!
Thanks again everyone.

As has been intelligently pointed out LIFTOPIA tends to be the best bet. You should realize an average of about $68.00 USD per day on a week's ticket/pass which is a beyond great deal.
If you've never been to Mammoth, you will be blown away. Hands down one of my top three to five best US mountains. It gets slammed on Saturday and Sunday as per the LAX skiers, then come Monday through Thursday clears out and many times can be v. quiet.
