How long do these stones normally last?
It seems like the sections I use become smoother really quickly but not sure if normal or not.

Based on knife/tool sharpening stones rather than anything ski specific: If it's gunked up rather than worn (kinda hard to tell on pic) a wire brush (or whatever you've got) and some WD40 (or whatever you've got) usually cleans 'em up ok.
