Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Glove “idiot straps”

 Poster: A snowHead

Can someone please remind me what the “idiot straps” are called for attaching your gloves to your wrists, and where I can get them from, cheers 🙂

Good for being on a lift and taking a glove/mitt off temporarily without looking like the idiot who has lost his/her glove on the lift.

I love them.

+1 for 5 mins with needle, thread and elastic.

Small cheapy carabiner or 2 also highly recommended to attach to each other, backpack, pole straps, belt loops, etc, etc.( Highly useful if have to take off in high wind for a start Smile ).

Cheap Ebay cord locks, also very useful.

EDIT: probably more relevant if making the webbing type rather than elastic.

Me too. Never scared to take a glove off to get a sweet or something on a lift. Brilliant things. Madeye-Smiley

Thanks all.

Market and elastic the obvious solution but time is a factor (I live in the middle of nowhere!)

I have some homemade ones currently but the elastic is thin and I don’t trust it not to snap!

Like others have said I like to be able to take gloves off on a lift without becoming that idiot that drops a glove 🤣

Gentlemen, be careful with these wrist straps. For simple tasks like taking a photograph I leave them hanging from the wrist. Now when urinating you (as I have done) end up peeing into your glove.

My jacket has plastic D-rings just below the elbows for the straps (a feature for ice-climbing).

My gloves (Millet) came with the straps. However, I always forget to use them...

+1 for the ebay camera strap purchase, however I found the actual straps too short for ski glove purposes - so I discarded the strap and use bootlaces threaded through the wee plastic spring thing that came with the camera straps.

Ideal, as I stupidly threw my last ones away with my knackered gloves a year ago rolling eyes

You can buy adjustable mobile phone wrist straps from Amazon and then larksfoot them onto your glove.

Something similar to this will work.

The Hestra straps are only a few quid. I have them on all my gloves.

When peeing it's better to go with the hang free method rather than risking a JohnE experience. Though this can be more difficult on the colder days...

We would assume you did not try doing that from a chair lift.

On the plus side, you have a pre-warmed glove when you put it back on Toofy Grin

My ski gloves (racer ladies) came with elastic wrist straps which are handy when you need to take a photo on the chairlift. The wrist straps are great but the gloves have a hole in the finger after 3 weeks skiing (and were cold at the tips in -20 last week even on the fingers without the hole!) so I would not recommend that brand!
