Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Intuition liners in old shells

 Poster: A snowHead

Hey guys,
Just picked up a pair of intuition liners for my Atomic Hawx. Everything fits, however with my current footbed the circulation to my toes are cut off immediately. I haven’t done the DIY moulding yet and my concern is that the liner won’t be able to pack out enough so was hoping for advice on the following:
1) I had planned on getting new foot beds of this works, if it doesn’t then it’ll be new boots altogether which is what I kinda need anyway but can’t afford - should I just go for new footbeds before hand and while I’m at see if my guy is happy to do the moulding for me
2) anyone having done this found the intuition packed out totally fine anyway?

It’s the standard universal all black wrap around tongue liner I’ve purchased.

I’m aware of the benefits of going to the fitter etc but I believe I can do this myself if you guys think it should work otherwise I’ll cut my losses and send the liner back..

Have done home fitting a few times. You really need the toe cover things that you hopefully got with the liners to create toe space once the liners are heated. For extra toe room you can also place pads between your toes as well.

Your feet will be crushed when you have the toe pads and toe spacers on but it will create a lot more space around your toes.

Probably worth speaking to boot fitter about footbeds and see if they will do the heating for you at same time.

I managed some boot fitting at home. I bought some neoprene diving socks and cut the toes off. I suspect you could get away with cutting the toe box off a thick pair of socks and taping them in place

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

If you have any doubts I'd go for the new boots option which it sounds to me like you know is the best option already.

I don't think circulation cut off is likely to be a toe space issue. More like too much pressure somewhere else on the foot.

Yep - I've done this - works well.
You can create a lot of extra space in intuition liners with judicious use of padding when you mold them. If you do that - it won't be comfortable when you are doing it but it's an investment!
Other thing to note is that a lot fo intuition liners (thicker aftermarket ones) have quite a lot of foam in the sole. You CAN just use them without foodbed and the foam in the sole will mold to your feet. I haven't tried this - just reused my old footbeds.

Cheers for that and everyone else's input!

Due to many injuries over the years my feet are fairly mangled and a good footbed has always made a big difference. I'mma call my bootfitter see if he'll sort me out!

That is, at the end of the day, the sensible answer to boot problems.
